    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Removal of 2 clutch springs - TE510?

Has anyone besides Scott Summers removed 2 of their opposing clutch springs for an easier pull? If so, any issues?
 
I rode my TE 450 today with two springs removed and seemed to work fine. It definitely pulls easier. I did not fell any clutch drag but I am not 100% sure I am going to keep it that way, I need to ride it a few more times. Try it though.
 
i have done it to my TE450, had it that way for a couple of months now. I have flogged it on many hills since and it has never slipped or dragged. It was honestly a great move for me.
 
I have an '08 SM510R and just pulled out two of the six clutch springs. I think it would be most likely to slip at peak torque RPM in 6th gear, right? Result: no slippage at full throttle in any gear, and I think a well-running SM510R with sticky street tires on pavement would be a worst-case test. :thumbsup:

After more rigorous experimentation, I have concluded that it is right on the verge of slipping when at full throttle near the torque peak. It takes only a slight touch of the clutch lever to get it to slip in those conditions. But except for riding on a race track or in the desert, who ever holds these things (510's) at full throttle for long? I might not race mine this way but the light clutch pull is nice for normal use and I'd have to think it'd be fine for any woods/trail riding, even with a 510.

09/24/09 update: I put my two springs back in because I am getting more slip than I'd like when I'm really hard on the gas. I really liked the light pull and for off-road only use I might still have left it with only 4 but an SMR510 is just too much for only 4 springs.
 
I got my 09 TE510 to slip yesterday under a few conditions. I kept thinking to myself, damn Scott Summers couldn't get it to slip.:banghead:

I'm pretty sure it has something to do with my (ahem) weight. Just a donut short of 245.

Soooo, I put mine back in for now. Running all 6. Oh well.
 
Same here - pulled 2 springs - will slip at full throttle in 6th about 6000rpm. (09 te510)

I'm a donut short of 260+lbs fully geared up.

dont know if its that great for the te510 though... i done mine and i love how light it is but i can make it slip easy as pie just by throttling on ! doesnt seem so bad on dirt but really cant tell but on road it slips like hell till i back off ! my bike is tweaked (dont know hp but must be around 55-60hp) and i am only 68kg so maybe that doesnt help matters but i am throwing my springs back in...dont want to burn the clutch out... 450 isnt as aggressive, so maybe thats why they are ok with this mod ?
