• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Rear of car/truck motorcycle rack

Husqvarna
AA Class
Hi all,
Does anyone use one of these racks to carry their bikes? If so, what brand and how do you like it?
I'm looking to get one if I get some good reviews. Having a trailer in Indonesia is an accident waiting to happen...

I have a lovely Aussie made job If its just me going for a ride I use it. They are easy to hitch up, are stable and do not interfer with the cars performance provided:
It is capable of carrying down force of circa 150 kgs (jeeps are about 310 kgs) You have a proper hitch ie not just a goose neck one but one with a good sqaure insertion bracket that normally takes the ball.

Here's my set up. It is partially home made and uses studs through the foot pegs to secure the bike. Also added, but not in this photo is a 4" riser at a 10 degree angle to compensate for the tilt and a wooden ramp with a guide plate.

I'm pretty convinced that this is what I want. I may have to have it made custom (along with a receiver hitch). The price of these things looks great but the cost of having it shipped here is prohibitive. I'm probably looking at over $1000 to buy and ship the rack and receiver. Now I just need to take some measurements of the mounting points on my car and get the material. I'll post some pics when I get it together...

I just sold one of the "cheap" aluminum ones available from Harbor Freight. It's rated for 400# and actually worked very well.

I love mine, works well. It's the 400lb alum. from discount ramps.

Maybe this will give you something to work off of

Works great on the Jeep

Thanks for the dtailed picture. The measurements will be quite helpful in making one for myself.

I too have the Versa-Hauler, since 2003. Still working great today. Use it weekly.... Make sure you get the anti-tilt bracket to keep it from moving around too much in your receiver.

Agree, with all the hitch carriers an anti-tilt bracket is a necessity IMO. The Versa-Hauler one works great--solid!

I have the steel Moto Tote and I welded a large nut (1/2-13) to the inside ,so I just put a large bolt and lock washer in and it holds tite to the side of the reciever,no rocking at all.

Whenever my anti-tilt wears out, that sounds like a plan.... I've been using it for 9 years tho. It may not wear out???

I'm riding in the morning.... I'll post a pic of the Versa-Hauler hauling Orange.... I hate orange, but the bike ain't bad.

So, it's 9 years old.... bent up and scratched a little. But with the 4 tie down point the bike is secure & holds up to 500 pounds. Versa-Hauler

Hopefully I can get to the material shop today to get all I need to build one. Off to Bali for a week of surfing so I'd love to come back to a completed rig.

Not sure if you have already solved your problem but if not you could try Ballards in Australia. Im using theirs at the moment and have no complaints. Very similar to the versa hauler. Being closer to Indo might make for cheaper shipment as well.....maybe.
