  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

rear brake stay length '77CR250

Can anyone confirm the correct length of the 77-78 CR rear brake stay? part no 15 15 421-01. I have two with different lengths in my parts bin.

Try them both and see which one looks like the correct orientation of the backing plate lug. Is there a significant difference in length?

About an inch. Analyzing some that were offered on ebay shows it to be the shorter one, about 17 eye to eye...of course that is the one that has a bad bushing in it. Those isolastic bushings are a bear to change, have to cut out the rubber than peel the remaining metal shell out.

Which swing arm do you have ? I have the earlier one on my 78 WR's. Happy to measure for you. Let me know the length of the swing arm.

My swing arm is 21" end to end. The brake rod is 16"5/8 centre to centre. Both my 78's are the same. You may have the longer arm with the "pull" adjusters for the rear wheel. Mine have the "push" adjusters.

The mystery deepens...my adjusters are the push type, unless the PO put push type on what was supposed to be a pull. I'll have to wait until I get wheels back and eyeball which rod works. According to one advertised on ebay (I know...) the '77CR had the longer arm. Or maybe its a CR/WR difference.

I do know the 78 WR's used the shorter swing arm. Maybe the later 77's also used this. Easy to tell a true 78 WR as the rear frame loop is usually bent upwards as a result of looping it because the arm was short :D I also have a later brake stay (in the "can't use it pile") that is too long and pushes the backplate too far rearwards !
