• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Real answers to a real problem!

I love riding dirt bikes But there are times when it is a real bummer! Like today for instance. Being old(58):oldman: short(5/10) with 30 inch inseam :banghead: and fat (270) can make riding not very enjoyable:cry:. The problem for me (besides weight) trying to work on that: is modern bikes are just too tall,so buying a new one with e-start is not going to solve all my problems. The question I have is what would be a good bike for me to get? Of course it has be to be a husky and I already have a 82 xc 430. I want something modern that I can throw a leg over without using a box and yes it needs to have e-start, Any ideas? I know I am not the only one who has this problem HELP!

Not sure but my mate was dead keen on the ktm200.
If husky make one and if your dropping the coin on a brand new one the £500 power parts free he was going to get it lowered.

But if your looking for a short itallian then your best buying a 250 2/ as theyre cheaper than 4/'s then getting the suspension sent off and dropped for your height.

Beta XTrainer is a sweet ride.... I really like it...
I agree. The XTrainer is a lower bike with an E-start. But I'd take any of the Betas, for that matter! I'm only 5 ft 5 inches tall and rapidly closing in on 61 years, but I have just learned to live with modern bikes. I have a 30 year old bike that I ride also, but it can't compare with the handling and suspension of later models.

+1 on this! Easy bike to ride, still has plenty of go, no mixing 2stroke as it has oil injection.
Only negative for some people is that the suspension is more trial (soft) than enduro. It can be fixed but the fork is a bit odd.
Nicely priced too.

What do you guys think of this idea. 2013 or 14 310 txc. More power than my tc 250r, has e-start. Put my t/5 exhaust on it. Lower front and rear with race-tech lowing kit (lowers bike 2 inches). May shave a little off seat 1 inch. Total of - 3 inches and BAM!! be happy. DO the same to my 82 430 best of both worlds. Oh yea new springs front and rear for my weight on both bikes. I think this would custom fit the bikes to me and not cost an arm and a leg.

Sounds like a plan. On the '82..... just get some WR forks and shocks. My '82 250WR is way lower than a XC. The WR might have a shorter swingarm too?

I guess the only difference in xc and wrs are the wrs have a factory spacer in them that only give a wr 10 or so inches of travel. So I just have to take the shocks back to the place that rebuilt them and have him put that spacer in and do the same to forks or maybe just rise them up some.

personally I think "lowered" bikes handle like crap.... turn funny because they are too long for how low they are... just my opinion.... How about an AJP?

You may be right race, but look at it this way. I am already too heavy for the stock suspension, so the bike does not handle like it should anyway. It probably sags way too much in the rear. Making the front end too light when cornering. If I put on proper springs for my weight even though it is 2 inches lower it will handle better for me.

Yep. Once you shorten up everything, the forks are at a too tucked in steering angle. I put a lowering link on my 2003 KDX 220 and brought the fork tubes up in the triple clamps one inch. The bike was too twitchy in the front and the back suspension link was a bit too far into a different lever ratio for the valving that I put in it when it had the stock links. The trade off of being able to get my feet on the ground wasn't worth it, and the only place the bike worked well was in very tight technical terrain. It was horrible in fast, open areas with whoops. I changed it back to stock height after a couple of months.

Thanks one and all. Keep the ideas coming but remember I bleed Husky, so I will not consider any other brand. I will quit first (okay maybe a little harsh but you get the idea).
