  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

ran out of gas..now wont start

have an 09 te250 havent had any problems with the bike at all. Ran out of gas and now it will not start. Ideas?

Can you hear the fuel pump whirring/priming when you turn the key on? Is the kill button set to Run? Turn the key on and off several times and listen for the fuel pump to prime every time.

Valves adjusted?
Does it pop at all?
Give it a squirt of start fluid under the filter strait in?
Worth a shot. Sounds like the pump is fine. Might need to make sure it is seated.

havent checked the valves yet, it does pop and have not tried starter fluid...ill try it out later after work.

Instead of turning the throttle while cranking try turning the idle screw in another 1-2 turns.

The trick that the old bikers used was to remove the fuel cap (US:gas cap), take a deep breath and blow hard into the tank. If there´s an air bubble in the fuel line, you´ll push it out and it should get fuel. This works when you´ve run out of fuel and need to get the last drop out for a few hundred yards.

ok, thanks ill give those ideas try. Going to work on it after work tonight will repost tomorrow

This might be hard to do on an FI bike.

I have run out sometimes and have had to fill the tank beyond half full before the bikes would start.
Dunno why, maybe it is a pressure thing.
You may want to loosen ( note: loosen only ) the fuel line where it joins the EFI unit so as to ensure that the gas is at least going as far as it should.
Then what about a blocked / dirty injector .

As listed above, check the fuel pump for priming, check that fuel is actually getting through- crack a hose. If not mate, could also be the fuel filter mounted in the tank in blocked. If was running ok I would doub't it would be the valves, but you never know !!

I had the exact same thing happen a few days ago. I added a liter of gas and it wouldn't start. Added another and still wouldn't. I then blew into the pressure release tube (insert joke here) while starting and it fired up. It took a few more times of firing it up before it would run right but then she was fine.

So if you choose to ride a 4 stroke the occasional blow start is required? I once dated a girl that could suck start a Harley, if I can find her number I'll PM it to you.

Yep, that's why my other two bikes are 2 smokers. No foreplay required. Just give 'em a kick and you're in for a good time!
