• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Quick Q on a bike stand issue...maybe you guys can help

Hi Gang. A fellow posted on our local Craigslist a bike stand I'm interested in (looks decent and it's the type I'd like for quickie things...it's the type where you place it under the bike and then step down on the lever and lock it in the upright position.)

I e-mailed the guy to say "send me the make/model number of it as I want to check min height, max height and weight rating." He said the stickers on the thing are long gone and he doesn't know, but he said at rest it's 12.5" and at upper extension it's 17.5".

My bike is one county away in a friends garage, and he's out of town. Can someone tell me if 12.5 fits under it and, if so, if 17.5 would get it off the ground? I'm not too worried about weight rating- I think most (even motocross stands) can handle a 300 pounder (mine should be around there...removed some little things and have the FMF single on it as opposed to the twin boat anchors.)

Thanks!

It will work for the 610. Not sure, but the 630 is 1" lower and that's all the room you'll have to slide it under. If its just fitting you can roll the front wheel up on a 2x4 and the stand will slid right under.

Huge help...huge thanks!

I would be wary of the weight capacity but this depends on manufacturer and model. I use cheapo Harbor Freight stand for my ~240 lb. dirt bike and it is fine. That stand is rated at 350 lbs. but I've tried it on my DR and the TE and is not safe for either.

I´ve gotta similar stand. I stand on the lever, the bike goes up and the lever´s on the floor. BUT ... it´s NOT SAFE, as the lever tends to snap up and the bike comes down with a whack. Mine needs a splint to lock it in the up position.

Thanks guys- really appreciate the input. The one I picked up is rated to 350 lbs. but yeah, I'm not trusting that. I'll put something else under the bike (a la jack stand) and also be sure I rig it to lock properly in the lifted position to avoid a bad scene.

I purchased a glorified milk crate from Royal Distributing for 26 bucks that works well to keep the tires off of the ground for storage, however......will definitely invest in a proper hydraulic one as mentioned above (on wheels) for ease of maneuvering in and around the garage and for oil changes etc...first things first...need to buy gear and pay for insurance etc haahaha

same as this one: http://www.faster-motocross.com/msr-mx-bike-crate.html
