  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Question on front tires for the dirt bike guys (and gals)

benwiggin2

Husqvarna
AA Class
My 08 TE510 has a Michelin Enduro Competition front tire. It came with the bike. It's a 90/90 21. Thinnest and skinniest front tire I've ever ridden on- but.....I LIKE IT...but, it's old, cracked, and this past weekend I got a flat, so I'm replacing it.

Is there any reason not to run another 90/90?????

Michelin have different sizes to everyone else, so a "normal" size would be 100/90 21 or something like that. Enduro comp's are crap in my opinion (but you being in USA probably need a DOT tyre) but I would definitely recommend a Bridgestone M204 as a great all rounder with excellent wear and grip on most surfaces. I swear by them.

Bridgestone 403 for me just love em. Tried many others just not there.
For rear the Brigestone is great as is the Dunlop geomax 51.
Beleive it or not Kenda are back making decent tyres again after making 3 ride disposables for several years.

I like the Pirelli MT21 90/90

Pirelli MT 21 Rallycross Front Tire
  • DOT approved
  • 90% off-road / 10% on-road design
  • Provides excellent off-road performance, even over long distances
  • Chosen as one of the most aggressive dual sport tires on the market for two consecutive years by Dirt Bike magazine
  • Designed mainly for off-road use
  • The best-selling dual-sport tire in the U.S.A.

Thanks gent's. I'm not so concerned (actually, not at all) with any DOT issue. I just liked the handling with the skinny 90/90 up front. A little more research based on some more comments (hint hint) and I'll hopefully run a 90/90.

What kind of terrain are you running on most of the time? That can make a big difference...I have tried the Dunlop MX51, and while it is an "Intermediate Terrain" (IT) tire, I found the open knob pattern to be good in loose terrain and sand, less so on hardpack. I'm running a D952 now (bartered so the price was right), closer knob spacing, and it's shaping up to be better in the hard pack, though also labeled as an IT tire.

Continental makes a nice tire called the Gelande Sport. Also an IT, good price point, quite sticky. None of the tires I mentioned are DOT. OHR's Pirelli recommendation is good if you need the DOT on the sidewall. It seems most of the DOT tires all run about $20 more than their non-DOT brothers.

PS - I run 80/100 on the front of my TE250; any differences in contact area between an 80 and a 90 can be adjusted out with tire pressure.

I ride mostly desert, so hard pack, rocks, and plenty of sand wash. Ended up going with a Maxxis Max Cross EN 90/90/21.

We'll see how it is!

Me too on the 403's and loving them!

+1 on 403's. One of the best out there for all dirt.
I'm an old D756 fan from waaaay back, but they are no more. The geomax are the new version but have not run them. A good friend turned me onto the 'stones, he's vet expert GP racer so I trust his opinion on tires.

For dualsport this scorpion rally I've been running for the past couple of thousand miles is dabomb.
