  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Quad hybrid using 2009 TE 510 motor

Good day all
I am new to this forum and hope that I will not infuriate to many "quad bashers" that are members on this site.
I am building a Hybrid quad using a Suzuki LTR450 Frame and a 2009 Husky TE 510 motor. I have managed to pick up the donor bike complete with wiring, TFI and everything I needed for the build. I subsequently also managed to pick up an 08 SMR 510 with similar bits and pieces, all for a very reasonable prices.
The reason I chose this motor is that as much as I appreciated the Suzuki LTR 450 motor, I was always looking for the next gear. As this quad is specifically being build as a desert racer, I had to do some research as far as 6 speed transmissions were concerned. I had previously burnt my fingers with the KTM RFS platform so I was weary to wear that badge again. I found that the TE 510 had almost identical transmission ratio's from 1-5 and the sixth was the cherry on top.

I have a couple of questions that I am hoping you learned Husky guru's can answer. I find it strange that I cannot seem to find any performance enhancing cams etc for this motor, or am I just not looking in the correct places?
I am I also interested in any input as to fitting an external oil cooler, as I believe that I might possibly need a small increase in oil volume, considering my application.
Where on this site will I find the "classified" section.
Anyone have any good PCV programs/maps?

Thanks Teeszy,
I have a couple more questions...

Does anybody have the Zip Ty racing oil filter modified housing used for the addition of an oil cooler? Would like to buy one...
Are the TC cams more performance oriented than the TE cams? Can they be used in the TE?
Does Husqvarna sell an oil change kit( similar to KTM ) containing an oil filter plus new oil screens?
Did all 09 TE 510 models come with cat converter in the exhaust pipe or only those sold in the USA?
:)

Richard one base for 9info would be R&D Husqvarna located at emu plains (outer suburb of Sydney) give them a bell. They are the original Husky importers to Australia and have a lot of parts etc.

Drop Ty an email. He's pretty good with getting back to people. If you can't find the external cooler adaptor locally, he might have one around the shop still and can answer your cam questions as well.

Are you sure the transmissions are so similar between 1 thru 5th ? I have both of these "toys" '07 LTR and an '08 TE510 , I'd swear the ltr's gears are wider ,been a year or so since I rode it though . I'm not sure if I'd prefer the 510 motor in the dunes over the LTR's , it's so close to how the 2cycles were , so much fun . I wonder if the ratios changed in later years .

Watch this space... hybrid conversion is done and ready for collection.... cant wait to ride it and post up my thoughts. I am still trying to get hold of a Zip Ty oil cooler for this motor....does anyone have one for sale? Still no response from Ty....

First ride done and dusted. Wow, power delivery and gear ratio's perfect. Unfortunately, a lot of vibration... so back to the work bench to add Counter balancer. A small setback, and very positive that once the vibration is tamed... there will be very little else that will tame this beast! And its still stock....

The vibration is the only thing I have disliked about my 510. I really wish they would of installed the counter balancer on all of the big block motors. Pictures?

Hi Guys,
Please be patient on the pics. The Good news is that the vibrations are absolutely gone and now I can really appreciate the fantastic power that this motor delivers. Have it stripped down getting rid of all the excess wiring and having the back shock revalved. Any Ideas on the importance of the DC relay. I dont run horn, lights, indicators etc etc

I got it from Bon Moteren in Netherlands..cant remember the price but I thought it was very reasonable...much cheaper than sourcing it through agents in Australia and the customer service was excellent!

I am still looking for a Zipty oil cooler...any out there...and please dont ask me to contact Ty...he has never returned or answered any of my mails
