  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Looking to quiet down my WR..... Does anyone use either of these on their 250/300 ? Are either significantly quieter than the stocker ?

I checked the DB Snorkel website a while back and it was as if they had closed shop. The Leo Vince made my buddies GasGas really quiet but I heard they have a screen type spark arrestor which I would not like. I'd be inclined to go with the Q Stealth. That being said what don't you like about the stocker I think it's all around pretty good.

Yeah..... I heard the LV is a screen type arrester also..... I may end up going with the FMF depending on availability.
Nothing really wrong with the stock unit just a little loud for my taste I guess.... I also have a KTM 200 that's whisper quiet by comparison. It may just be the price you gotta' pay for all that Husky boost !!!
 
I've got an LV muffler and it is a little quieter than stock, gives the bike a deeper note too.
I reckon it lets the bike breathe a bit better up top, and it looks SEXY!
 
i got mine from enduro engineering. i was in a hurry as the stocker was kind of falling apart (after only 220 or so hours), and I wanted to have a backup in case i didn't pass sound check at idaho city last summer. i didn't realize it was a screen-type arrestor until I got it. I haven't tried it with the screen in yet. I'm hoping it doesn't clog up too fast. I would probably go for the q-stealth next time.
 
Just put a leo vince on wr 300 last night. Very quiet. Spark arrestor is kind of a pain to install but pipe sounds good and looks really cool.
 
Thanks for the help guys !..... After some research sounds like they're both good units so I really can't make a bad decision.... although I'll probably be going with the Q Stealth ..... depending of course on availabilty !

What year is your 200? How would you compare the handling between the husky and the ktm?

My 200 is an 07 XC. The KTM is definitely more nimble in the really tight single track.. you know, the trails with really tight 180 degree switch backs. As soon as the trail opens up a little however the stability/planted feel of the WR (not to mention the magic motor) is tough to beat ! The suspension on the WR is better, especially on small "trail junk" and is a lot plusher in rock gardens and log crossings etc. I had the KTM revalved by a local tuner (Bud Matto of Mattos' cycle) and it is certainly better than the stock stuff but I still have to ride the bike like I'm mad at for it to work really well. It can be pretty tough come hare scramble season as to which bike gets loaded on the truck !

I do inspections, including sound, at the Funky Chicken every spring. The one thing that impresses me in KTM land are those amazingly quiet 200s... my TXC511 with Akro is nice and quiet, but Ive never heard anything as quiet as those 200s. Something for Husqvarna to strive for IMHO.
