• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

’09 Husky TC 250 set to bark!

Published: 02 nd January 2009

THE new-for-2009 Husqvarna TC250, which fans visiting The Dirt Bike Show were able to see in the flesh for the first time, is a completely new, revolutionary machine and without a doubt will be one of THE most important models of 2009. And with the first test machines being made available for the first press tests later in January at the Husky HQ, it won’t be long before they will be in the shops!

As could be seen at the DBS, the biggest innovation is the new 250cc engine that, at only 22 Kg, is without any shadow of doubt the new point of reference for this category. And in terms of overall size, the engine is visibly more compact than its rivals. Compared with the TC 2008 engine, the distance between the primary transmission and the centre is decreased by about 16% and the distance between the gearbox and the centre is reduced by about 7%. Length, width and height have been decreased by 13% – which all makes for an incredibly compact unit.

The single cylinder, water-cooled four-stroke engine features four radial valves while bore and stroke are 79mm and 50.9mm respectively to give a capacity of 249.5cc. The engine breathes through four titanium radial valves driven by twin overhead combined chain/ gear drive cams. It sports a wet multi-plate clutch (seven driving plates – six driven) while a five-speed constant mesh gearbox promises durability. Lubrication is taken care of by a dry sump system with rotor pump. The engine and gearbox combined hold approx 0.9l of oil. Starting is by kickstart to save weight.
Complementing the super-compact engine is a completely new chassis, lighter with redesigned geometry to make the most of its attributes. All the body panels have been designed so as to make the bike especially compact, slim and manageable. The dry weight of the exciting new Husky is only 92kg, thus adding to its appeal and performance. The rear suspension has a new ‘Soft Damp’ system with a new leverage ratio, progression curve and decreased frame load while chain tension effect has been optimised to aid traction.

The new aluminium swing arm features an asymmetric geometry extruded box aluminium centre housing the off-set shock absorber. New sealed-pump Marzocchi 50 mm forks grace the front end while a new Sachs shock absorber looks after the back end.

As we said, the first test for the world’s press comes later this month and T+MX will be FIRST into print with initial impressions and action pictures of this exciting newcomer. We can’t wait, don’t miss it...
