  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

125-200cc Premix ratio for 2013 WR125

G'Day troops, I am using my 2013 WR125 mainly for trail riding, I like to explore tight tracks and very rarely fully open it up, mostly hanging aroung at less that half throttle. I also do a bit of on road riding, but very little of that.
A mechanic told me I should be running my premix at 50:1

Any thoughts on this?

You will find guys running everything from 32:1 to 50:1.

I personally run 40:1. I'd rather over-oil, than under oil, but I think you will be fine at 50:1

You should be Okay at 50:1 for the kind of riding you are talking about. For more aggressive riding I'd use a minimum of 40:1 in a 125.

I use 32:1 in 125's, 40:1 in 250-300's and 50:1 in the big bores. Using good fuel(non-ethanol) is just as important as using good oil.

Thanks for the replies troops, I might give the 50:1 a go, I'll be using the fully synthetic Motorex oil so I should have a little better protection.

I ran 25:1 for the first tank when new per the manual. Ran 32:1 since and its spooging big time. Plug is black and wet. Gonna bump up to 40:1 and see how that works.

Pick a ratio and jet to it,altering your pre-mix ratio to try and compensate for poor jetting is not a good idea. Going from 32:1 to 40:1 is actually making things richer by a very small amount (less oil, more fuel)

I've always ran 32:1 in my 125's.

I figure running wfo down logging roads to throttle chop is the most likely way to seize a 2 stroke. Plus they're not really lubed all that effectively.

I'm sure 40:1 wouldn't be much of a difference, but 50:1 makes me nervous for some reason.

don't be nervous, worry causes wrinkles
the manufacturers and oil companies have spent money on this
I got 50:1 from a shop that was doing dyno work at 100:1 and tore down for inspections and found it was Ok
I decided on 50:1 as a decent stopping point as I was also not completely sold even with the proof

I have a friend who has used Opti at 100-1 for many years in his woods bikes and swears by it. I race with him sometimes and he doesn't have any problems that I've seen. I wanted to try it, so I ran it in my KDX for two seasons at 60-1 (that's as daring as I would get), and my chainsaw at 75-1 for the last 3. The chainsaw has never run as well as it does with that oil. Nonetheless, mix at 32-1 for my MX bikes, with Motul 800, which recommends a 50-1 mix ratio.

I'm so confused :excuseme:

100:1 is commonly used on trials bikes but they don't see sustained wide open throttle. I wouldn't try it in the sand dunes or the open desert. I use VP110 fuel with Ammsoil @ 40:1 on all my 2t engines including trials bikes, weed eaters and chainsaws. Poor quality fuel causes a lot of failures that are blamed on jetting and mix oil. The failure of priming bulbs, "O" rings and other similar parts that harden or shrink and fail is pretty much non existent when you use good fuel.

I've run Amsoil synthetic in a Husqvarna chain saw mixed so heavy that oil was dripping out of the muffler and never fouled a plug. If you can get Amsoil Interceptor where you are, I'd run it at 40:1 and not give it another thought.
