• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Sunday Sept. 25th Mountain Ridge GNCC, near Somerset Pa.…surreal…low fog ceiling and these huge windmill generators operating all around… when it was quiet you could hear the blades...they make an eerie sound.

Most of the forecasted rain slipped to the east and nothing happened on Sunday to put a damper on another great weekend of racing.

The promoter had a nice 12 mile loop set up for the morning 'C' race. With the terrain being consider somewhat "Technical"; which is nice talk for very slippery rocks and roots, it was shaping up to be a 3 lap, 2 hour race. About 40 minutes per lap.

14 bikes on the 200 C 16+ line, starting near the back… The start was a decent grass field, two turns and you were out. One big loop, not a lot of spectator opportunities.

Got off the line mid -pack and was around 6th heading out after two turns.

About 38 minutes later he came thru in 1st place with a 35 second lead over his main competitor. Andy looked good, was carrying some mud, had a couple of tear-offs left…a quick thumbs up from him and he was gone.

Now is when it apparently got interesting. Around the 4 mile mark there were some rock outcroppings that he had lofted the front end thru on the 1st lap; he didn't make it this time…

Crushed the pipe…I mean crushed. He kept moving…not really sure if he should stop or keep going…He kept going…remember mile marker 4 and 8 to go to see your mechanic...

He was due in and the white flag was out, I heard him before I saw him.
I thought we had another silencer problem, I wish that was all it was…

He pulled in like he was done. I slipped him some fresh goggles, took a quick look, sent him out for the final lap and told him to run it. I didn't know it then and would not be able to tell him but somehow 2nd didn't show up for another 2 1/2 minutes and stopped for gas yet...

The collision had buckled the expansion chamber back and down, pulled the pipe out of the cylinder by a good 1/8''. I mean clear out…I could see daylight between the pipe flange and cylinder.

Now I'm sure many of you have heard this before…maybe a broken silencer, split pipe…but this was loud, VERY LOUD!

Talk about nervous; 40 minutes to go, busted bike and 2nd only 2 1/2 minutes behind him.

Now let's just say 35 minutes later you could hear him coming a mile away, clear across the valley floor in the pic below…but was I ever surprised he was still moving! As he got closer some people who were around me earlier were starting to get into the fact he was pushing hard to the end. I kept waiting for first to come thru and Andy to finish 2nd. But when I could see him a couple of hundred yards out no one had passed him yet. He kept looking back and going ever so easy.

As soon as he crossed the finish he shut the bike off and pushed it over to the side.
I think he'll be ok…but he said he could not hear anything anymore and his ears were ringing!

Somehow he finished almost 4 minutes ahead of second and 11th Overall out of 220.
Just for kicks somewhere on the last lap he bent his rear sprocket real bad also…

He was happy...even though you can't tell here...I think his head hurt. Real survival run.

Will do damage assessment later and report findings...but I did see the plastic skid plate mounting tabs underneath were melted! Hope the internals are ok...suprised we did not fry this thing again, tough piece of equipment! Maybe the Klotz R50 did it's job...

The boy is rough on things, check your spare inventory guys...might be needing some pieces/parts...

Special Thanks to the Sponsors...

Another awsome run! His ears are young...he will be hearing pins drop in no time. Keep us posted on what you find inside.

Mountain Ridge Rocks! In more ways than one...
Wow, the more I look around, did we ever take a hit from the local landmarks...Really lucky to limp this one home! I've got to give this kid a lesson in preservation during the long haul. A little slower and careful in a few selective spots would have resulted in a faster time overall.
But, what the heck he had the hammer down...

Pulled the pipe just to be able to plug the cylinder to wash the bike...

Took a peek in the exhaust port...still see cross hatching on the back wall, ring/piston look good.
Maybe the Klotz R50 and the Wiseco piston with the 4 holes in the skirt lined up with the exhaust bridge did the job!

Plug does not indicate anything too bad...It's actually more of a tan shade than the pic lets on...

And just for kicks... this isn't photoshopped... actually has a nice curve to it.

Maybe not too bad. I prefer the bike to be beat up instead of the kid. Going to dive into the topend and see what we got...
Andy said the suspension setup with the stabilizer allowed him to just use the top of the rocks and maintain speed/pace.

I said 'Than how did all this happen?' Got a shoulder shrug... Go figure.

Your Lad is well trained!! As long as the machine is still going dont give up!! If it stops look for the issue and fix it if you can, then keep on rolling. Good on him he persevered and kicked butt!!! Great write up great race story! Thanks for posting

Wow , I didn't realize how bad this thing was running...actually makes me chuckle.

Video shot by Mitch somewhere during the last lap...The bike sounds like a scooter!

Check out the little wave to the Bro...:p

Good report and great finish ... Bike engines are alot tougher than most know ... Unless a bearing comes apart, it takes alot to stop one many times ...
