  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I have a new '2010 TE450 with about 15 miles on the clock and it is currently set up with all the usual power ups for a '2010. Cat...gone, O2....jumped and throttle restricter removed. It doesn't start very easily and sputters and coughs a bit. I'm wondering if it might run better with the O2 re-installed. I'm also wondering if I can do that with out putting the cat back in? I seem to recall reading someplace that running the O2 without the Cat is OK but my dealer warned against it. ANYONE KNOW????

Thanks....Thor.

I bought a 2010 450 in Nov 2010, with 22 miles on it, with the full powerUp in place, it's always started and run great. I did have a problem with a gummed up fuel pump that I eventually had to replace. I would have to suspect that your fuel pump may have gumming up issues as well. But the bike should start and idle and run flawlessly if the dealer/person tuned the fuel maps to match the powerUp status.

But to answer your question: I do not know whether you can run the cat or O2 sensor with or without each other, but I do know that the bike should run perfectly with the full powerUp profile in place.

my 09 450 started and ran a bit rough for the first few hundred miles in power up mode. The engine may be tight yet. I would give it a chance to break in before getting too worried.

Your poll needs to be re-worded. "do you run with or without the power up" isn't really a "yes" or "no" question!

HI: I have a 2010 TE450. The bike really does take some time to break in. Engine is very tight at first. I had the same problem in power up mode at first. But now the bike runs as smooth as silk and is bullet proof. So keep it in power up mode, cat-out, o2 sensor jumped, ride it easy to break in and the rest will sort itself out.

I run my 09 510 without the O2 sensor in and it hasn't hurt anything that I have seen. I am going to put mine in full power up mode here pretty soon though.

My 2009 was the same way after PU, took it to Mototech in Boise and they dialed it in on the iBeat, runs great now.

As far as to how it sounds to be running: I agree that it needs some break in time. I'd check that the vacuum nipple on the left side of the throttle body (that was connected to the Charcoal canister) is properly plugged. Should have a rubber vacuum cap- but I'd advise to unscrew the brass nipple and replace with a properly sized and threaded bolt for a more permanent fix.Break the bike in and then get the Fueling/TPS calibrated on Ibeat by dealer.

As far as running the Lambda sensor or "O2" sensor without the cat: you can do that- but it will run way lean generally-depending on your settings. It would be advisable as a general rule not to run it that way- because in "standard" mode it is set up to be clogged up (air and exhaust) hense you should be running lean if you keep the factory settings.

Does it Run OK or just a hard starter? What's it Idling at? when warm? Have the idle set to 1900-2100 rpms it will help with stalls especially during breakin.

I run my 09TE450 in PU mode- changed the fueling settings with Ibeat- starts immediately cold or hot and runs perfect. Yours will too, Just run it lightly for now then get it tuned... after break in.
