• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Possible clutch lever engagement issue???

Bike is a 630 with hydraulic clutch.

I've noticed towards the end of the season that my clutch lever engagement point seems to have changed to where engagement is almost the end of release. What i mean is the bike, from a stop, doesn't start to move until the clutch lever is almost fully released. It is awkward and that is why I noticed. Feathering through the "slow stuff" is more difficult now because there seems to be such a narrow margin of clutch lever play before no forward movement and lever is fully released. Once moving along (2nd and up) engagement point remains the same but no longer an issue.

I have bleed the system with fresh mineral oil. No change. The clutch lever pull is smooth and consistent, not mushy at all. I thought it might be time for new clutch plates. I questioned my dealer and he didn't think that was it and asked me about the type of oil I had been using suggesting different oils, different results. I changed oil to a 10w50 (Castrol Power1 4T). I have put just under 500km on new oil with no noticeable difference.

Does anybody have a similar experience or comment? The bike is ride-able but I would like to understand what has happened to cause this and ultimately have it back to where it was before it was noticeable.

if you use the red adjusting screw changes something?

I tried the red screw. All it does is change the distance the lever is from the handlebars, not where the engagement point is along the pull. But thank you for the suggestion.

Do 630's have the adjustment at the end of the push rod on the clutch side?
Did they get rid of the adjustable part in the centre on the 630?

Take off the master cylinder and clean it out with an ear bud and non solvent cleaning agent. Also take out actuating rod clean and grease.
I have on other bikes placed a washer on top of each clutch plate spring, this gives additional purchase.
Good luck.

I did clean out the reservoir with a cotton ear bud when I changed the fluid. There was some slime laying on the bottom. I didn't use a solvent, just the new mineral oil. How does one take out the actuating rod? Where is it located? is it the piece the clutch lever pushes on when pulled in?

Something similar happened to me. The clutch cable had the right play but the clutch engaged very late. I had the adjuster mentioned before set too much inside and the pressure plate couldn't press correctly the clutch plates because the adjuster blocked it too early.
