  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Popping at steady rpm

brandontx

Husqvarna
AA Class
08 510 SMR. Just starting popping and hesitating almost like it's running out of gas when riding at a steady rpm on the highway. 6-7k it is most pronounced. Also just got back its popping on decel which was almost eliminated after adjusting the fuel with the JD tuner. Just installed a JD jetting tuner two months ago and the bike was running perfect. Need to know what might cause this. So far I've:
Checked battery terminals and were fine
Tuner powers up
Plug looks good
No exhaust leaks

What are some other usual suspects?

You might have to richen it up a bit
check out my thread in the EFI section it is called
the husky F/I fix

Might check your gas cap and make sure that the rubber seal is seated correctly.
You know that may be it. My gas tank has been leaking a lot from the cap. What rubber seal are you talking about. Is there one on the gas cap? I double checked last time to make sure that it was screwed on correctly and it still leaked.

Its a rubber seal on the inside of the cap that has a hump in it that pushes up into the cap. I try to make sure that the flat part is tucked above the highest thread. I had the exact same symptoms...gas was belching out from the gas cap. I tightened the gas cap more...still leaking. Bike was popping and cutting out and even shot a few flames out of the exhaust. Turns out my husband dropped that seal out of the gas cap and just kind of stuck it back in. Who would have guessed that something so minor could make such a big difference.

Popping can also be indicative of intake vacuum leaks. Check the intake boot between the throttle body and head for cracks (it happens), and also make sure that the plug on the throttle body (if you removed the charcoal canister) is still there.

I had no idea that thing even came out. We may have a winner. My gas cap has been leaking a lot exactly when the problem started. I thought it was probably leaking because on my last few rides I put 250 miles on the bike and only 150 miles on the front tire. Will also check the intake boot. Thanks everyone.

I know this thread is old. But does any one have the part number for this rubber piece I need a new one. Thanks

Hey, I have the same bike and the manual/parts list i have says. Throttle body union p/n: 8000Bo357.
I will be ordering a new one too so if it is wrong i'll get stung too. I'm not really the most qualified person to listen to I just downloaded the manual from the internet. Good luck.

My 450 smr with carb had that happen twice, and a few people I know have had 510s with FI crack the throttle body boot.

So must be common?
