• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

pondering a hare scramble

I don't take the racing part too seriously so don't mind pulling over to help somebody finish the race.
I think it was my second year at the Desert 100 that a friend needed a partner. I rode his bike and got a flat front 10 miles in of 50. That slowed me down a little . About 1/2 way through I stopped to help a girl cross the creek. When I finally got back he was a little cranky that I took so long, until he found out it was his 14 year old daughter I helped across the creek.
I ain't never been first, but I ain't never been last neither.:applause:

I just realized I really like the word 'ponder'...

How astute the membership is to use such a word in a post.

I've actually pondered many times when I thought I was just thinking about something.

Word Origin & History

ponder

early 14c., "to estimate the worth of, to appraise," from O.Fr. ponderare "to weigh, poise," from L. ponderare "to ponder, to consider," lit. "to weigh," from pondus (gen. ponderis) "weigh" (see pound (1)). Meaning "to weigh a matter mentally" is attested from late 14c.

I'll bet a good ponder may require a beer or two.

So, rocket...what is your final appraisal of the worth?

We need your final ponder results so we have something to compare the opinions you'll have after the deal is done!

Remember this ... ponder it now maybe ... but once you are sitting in the starting gate, pondering time is over :) ... at least till the race is over ... then you can ponder what just happened ... And maybe talk a little smack ...

Don't forget we are a very helpful bunch...make sure you get some pictures...we'll photoshop in the trophy girls!:D

On the serious side, here's my 2-cents.

Open your toolbox, grab some tools and go over every nut, bolt, screw and nipple on the bike. Check your cables, fluid levels and hose clamps.

Get on the water, if you don't have to piss on the starting line you didn't drink enough. Do the camelback thing and force yourself to drink during.

Stretch, now and often. The worst part was always the hamstring…If your legs are flailing around at all in the mud; it will show up in a distressed hamstring the next day.

Be prepared for your bike handling like a piece of crap towards the end if it's muddy. We all set our suspensions up on a dry bike. Put 20-30 lbs of mud on, all the fluids hot and thinner and the muscles starting to complain…things can get weird.

Know your lap times and projected laps...it always helps when you can see the end. I used to put an old watch on the bar pad, do some math and kind-of know where I was at...

If I was there I'd pit for ya...I love that stuff...

I think Geneseo is next weekend. Be a good one for you to start out on!
