• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

pondering a hare scramble

How big are the races in your series? My local series has between 250-300 riders in the adult bike race. No novice race, except at select events that are 2 day races. AA to C riders all together, make it quite challenging at times. Have fun and ride safe.

honestly norm i dont really know, the kid im gettin my info from said it has weird classes. im still waiting on more info

This won't gain me any friends, but here goes - I think that it is a waste of money. You can trail ride in the woods just as fast as you can ride while doing a harescramble. I've done harescrambles/enduros and it is no different than how I ride when riding with a group of buddies, as it's always a race. Why pay to do it?

I also used to roadrace and I get that - You can't do 160 mph around corners when you're not at a racetrack...

I disagree(even though I dont race) At a organized race event, you cant hit oncoming traffic like you can at a trail ride. Even organized trail rides you pay a fee.

WHITEROCKET5.9, Doooooooooo it! IF you dont like it, dont do it again. Otherwise youll always wonder....... I will be doing my first race(enduro) in October!

Well then it is a waste of time! What fun is that? Seriously look at one of my first posts titled out of the barn and into the race. Some of the most fun I ever had, and I am 51 and over 300lbs, you know I'm not in shape!

I'd say do it also ... and with some friends also if possible ... It should be a good time, before, during, and after the race ... If it gets too grueling, just back off the pace and keep going ... You'll have a lot to talk about after the race for sure and probably learn something during the race also ... Plus, that starting gate, or rubberband line start, or however it is that they start off the race, is a point in time that cannot be explained, you gotta be there to get what it has to offer ....

PS -- Trophy girls don't do hospitals :(

I have won championships racing harescrambles. Just sayen...

I've also dodged plenty of confused racers that were going the wrong direction on the track.

Now that I think about this more, I think that everybody should try at least 1 race. Maybe it is what you need???

Racing was never about comraderie for me - trail riding was. When I race, I am there to beat everybody that I can. If you crash, then I pass you. LOL.

There's racing and then there is being in a race ... two different things .... Not that you should enter a race with the intention of poking around but many of us are not RC and know we are not gonna win 1st place ...

You know there's at least 3 kinds of racers. The uber competitive like letitsnow, the guys who race themselves to see how well they can do regardless of where they finish, and me who when the flag drops stops to take a leak, walks to his bike, gets his brother to start it for him and then laughs for three hours. I'm glad there is room for all of us.

I'm with you. Matter of fact I end up passing quite a few of the "jackrabbit " starters by hanging back and letting them crash, lol. I speed up as the race goes on and I'm happy to finish. Hope to move up as I figure this stuff out.

The first one I raced (hair&hound)...I was 45 yrs old...I too had always wanted to but never did...then I met this guy and we both said lets do it...what I found was like the comments above...an organized trail ride...heck everyone is going the same direction, markers etc...Its alot safer than trail riding in my opinion. Just another ride and this time you get a finisher pin...

Family affair...take everyone along...pack the cooler...pack some munchies...

If you've been 'pondering', sounds like something you might really like to do; kind-of like one of those bucket list things. Don't miss the chance! Heck I consider it a weekend vacation...

Watch out, you may get hooked!

Like they say ''bet you can't do just one''

My advice for what it's worth...just as long as you keep moving you'll do OK. Lost time is just that; lost... You can never make it back up by the end.

Go for it!

no, its not till next month. the kid that was suppose to enter with me broke his collar bone last weekend doing mx..workin on gettin another buddy to enter with me.

do yall carry tools on theese things? i wasnt really planning on carryin much besides water
I dont carry tools beyond a multi-tool, but some people bring a tire changing kit (I am disinclined to repair flats out on the trail in most situations). Besides the water, a few granola/energy bars are handy in case you end up waiting for the sweep crew to pick you up. The longer the loops, the more supplies people are likely to carry.

thanks thats about what i was thinking. mayeb a spark plug and wrench but i dont think i really need one with teh 4 stroke?
I have a friend that managed to foul his plug on a 4 stroke a couple years ago during a race ... we still rib him about it :D ... it was a Yamaha though ...

I carry my whole Blue Ridge kit on the rear fender on every ride. So far...... I've used it to fix a lot of other people's bikes:cheers: including hare scrambles. I don't take the racing part too seriously so don't mind pulling over to help somebody finish the race. It's a lot of fun. Wish you could try the Golden Spike up here. It is truly a LOT of good simple fun for any experience level! Hope you get to participate in yours..
