    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Please help with routing of gear pos. sensor wire

Hi Gang. I'm re-assembling my 630 and for all the documenting I did of the routing of wires/hoses I didn't snap a pic of this one on dis-assembly...and the manual isn't much help. It's the gear position sensor wire. I know it runs up through a "tunnel" of sorts between the slave cylinder mount flange and the case- that's shown in the first pic (you'll see the black sheath sticking out of the top...heading upwards.)

What's got me concerned is the lower part of the wiring- closer to the GPS itself- that seems scarily close to where the chain will be spinning. Because of the white connector plug (at the other end of the wire) I can't see how it would be routed better (like getting into that "tunnel" sooner/lower.)

If someone can look at theirs and let me know what's right that would be great. I'm hoping to work on it again tonight. Here are the pics:

When you put the chain guide and cover on, keep the wire to the outside and it won't be an issue.

Hmmm, you'd think I'd have thought of that. :) Not sure if there's enough slack, but worth a shot (but also don't wanna leave it vulnerable either.) As a matter of fact- now that I think about it- that may not work as I think the cover is pretty much flush against the slave mount flange (and that's where the wire would have to come out as I know it does route through that little "tunnel" at the top of the flange.) Still, I'll double check, of course.

If one of you guys can look at yours to see how the factory routed it that would be great.

It routes in front of the clutch slave, between the slave and the engine case/flange. There is then a metal clip/retainer thingy (about 4 inches above the clutch slave) on the back of the coolant overflow bottle that both the clutch line and the GPS line are clipped into.

I'll double check my bike and get back to you. EDIT: Yep, more or less how it runs on my bike anyway....for better or worse :D
 
SimpleOne- this is great, thanks. I guess I got caught up thinking that I have to be able to route the wire and sheath through that tunnel (but the connector makes it impossible to do that from the right starting point) and I hadn't thought (duh) that I should be able to remove the slave and then slide it into that narrow cavity between the case and flange and then re-attach the slave. I'll try that. Thanks again.
 
No dramas, I made exactly the same mistake when I put mine together and had to take the clutch slave back off as well. No biggie, just another little time suck ;)
