• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Plans to visit ZipTy Racing Thursday

Ok, I'm driving up to see the shop on Thursday. Going to visit with whomever will see me. Taking my ECU from the '14 TE511 with me, and they're going to flash it while I wait. I'll report back with my learnings, and my understanding of things, after Thursday, as in April 17, 2014.

I'll probably add the oil breather bit, but not the recirculating hoses. But then, after visiting the shop, I might just add the hoses as well. I want my motor to last as long as possible.

Really excited about this visit. I had no idea they were as close to me as they are, and my phone call to ZipTy earlier today got me Michael himself on the phone, and let me tell you, I never felt in the slightest bit put off, or like he was bored with the conversation. Just really good people.

That's it for now. Should have TONS of excellent info to add to my knowledge base after the visit up there. Where is "there" anyway? In Oak Hill, CA. About an hour from Orange County, CA, if I drive real fast. Taking the car, not the bike. Don't want my valves to burn up on the way due to a too lean condition caused by running my FMF pipe without any ECU mods. Not that wealthy!! :D

I may not make it there before Noon on Thursday. I have some KTM parts I have to pick up from Malcolm's for my race bike. I really appreciate the nice comments, thank you!

I was just there Monday to drop off my 310R. Had a chance to meet the entire crew and was very impressed with them and the shop. These folks know what they are about! My bike is in good hands.

Nah, would'nt wanna go there, even being about 10000 miles away. On the phone, Danny was too good, wouldn't take any money until the product was ready for shipping, and far too good service. Nope, wouldn't wanna go there:cheers: . What's the world coming to , when ya can't complain..:applause:

I drove up there today, as stated in the opening bit in this thread. It was a 77 mile trip, plus another 5 miles due to GPS acting weird. When I got close, I had to call the phone number on the website, and leave a message. Susan called me back in 2 minutes, and it turns out I had driven right past them without knowing it.

They're back off the main road a bit. Two buildings--one that houses offices and a store room, the other is where the shop is located. First person I met was Susan, who answers the phone, works the front desk, takes orders, and runs between the two buildings as needed, which is why she probably was away from her desk for a minute when I first called. She said just head on over to the shop, that Tinken (Michael) wasn't there yet, but would be soon.

First person I met was Ty Davis. He was working on who knows what all, and stopped what he was doing and flashed my ECU with the Map 3 in about 3 minutes. It went real fast. He showed me his bike, I saw a bunch of trophies and posters and plaques and lots of bikes. Then Michael arrived, and we talked about the issues on this forum, parts he has developed for the 449 and 511.

I'm ordering the oil recirculating system. Ty showed me the new ones they've created, and Susan said they've sold a bunch of them already, and are waiting for them to actually arrive so she can ship them out. I spent just under two hours there talking and looking and listening. Most of what is on this forum is what we talked about. From hard parts to soft goods to mods and maintenance.

I left there, drove home, and installed my ECU. Fired up the bike. Here's the difference I noticed right away:

1. The idle is smoother and seems to be a lower RPM. I can say the bike actually purrs now like a I assume a tiger might purr.

2. Right off the start, the engine just grunts and pulls like a beast. Smooth, tractable power. Just a real pleasure to ride.

3. On a 3% uphill, in 4th gear, 25 mph, I opened the throttle 100%. The engine just came on like it was hell bent on getting me there. Amazing.

4. Power is predictable, very smooth, engine braking is nice.

5. No butterflies were harmed or removed for any of this. The secondary butterfly remains intact. Startup, idle, blipping the throttle, anything I can do, this thing just takes it in stride. I love riding the 511. I always have since the day I got it, but even more now.

It's too bad other guys have issues with their bikes. Mine has been nothing but great since day one. It's super great now. I'm not going to get a Power Commander. Don't need it. I've got plenty of usable power right now. Flashing the ECU with their map program was an excellent choice, and at $39.99 for the flash, well, that's the cheapest money I've ever spent for an excellent upgrade.

I will have to check the fuel mileage. But I don't give a flying flip about fuel mileage. I didn't buy this bike to drink from a sippy cup. It makes gobs of power. That's why I bought it. Stock, it was the raw material needed to create a freaking flying machine. For what it is, which is a small engine, it's amazing.

Also installed my Pro Cal tune in the Mustang GT... and now have 450 lb ft of torque and 440 hp.... but that's another forum and another story!

Thanks to Ty, Danny, Michael, and Susan for their friendly helpfulness and down to earth cordial activities. It was worth the drive up there. Good people with some excellent products and tremendous know-how based on real world testing and racing. I love it.

The downside... there isn't one. Well, unless you count having to wait a few days for parts to get finished. But that's ok. Bike runs perfect now. Adding oil system will only make it run cooler and ensure the torque limiter doesn't burn out.

 :applause: :applause:

This forum has been the best I've been on, and meeting the people who frequent it, and have provided so many great solutions to issues, and are as helpful as they are, is really great. Thanks dudes and dudette!!

Glad to hear another the positive about Zip Ty. I was really happy after they worked on the suspension of my 08 TE510. I met Ty and Danny and they are really nice people.

Working on suspension is the final thing on my list of things to do. Not sure when I'll do it, but ZipTy will be the choice for me.

Last Year I raced the Baja 500. I had Ty do my suspension and he went thru my 510 motor. It was an ex Zip Ty race bike. I spent a while talking to Ty, it was his birthday and he was in the shop working on suspension.
It was impressive. I was not a customer. I was a fellow racer and he was giving me advice for my first Baja. Not talking down, just two guys talking about racing and Baja.
Last year I had an issue at the last minute, Danny thru down on Friday when we were on our way down to Baja, to get me to the race. No attitude at all, just get me to the race.
My prerun motor is at Zip Ty now. I lost a coolant hose and overheated the motor. I am having Ty take care of. I did not think of anyone else taking care of it.
Trust me, They are that good.
Soon in my future, I want to do the shop to Vegas ride with Ty.
I think it would be great. Maybe we could do a Cafe Husky Ride. Tinken?

Yea, that would be funny. Thing is, "local motorcycle shop" is usually kind of a dud experience. They don't let you in where the service department people do their thing, they have all manner of junk motorcycles in there, and nobody knows anything specific about your bike. Lots of generalities, for sure. At least with these guys up in Oak Hill, they're specialists, they're racers, they're smart, and they'll talk to you. Try to get a "motorcycle shop" mechanic to talk with you about your bike sometime. I've never been able to.

Ah yes, you live in Colorado. People are nice there. Actually, I must admit that I've had some good conversations with mechanics in the past, so my earlier post about not being able to talk to them was not entirely accurate. It's good to find people who are willing to help out with problems, which is why I like this forum so much.

My suspension landed at Zip ty yesterday...super excited to see the difference. I'm riding a 2013 YZ 250, and having them completley gone through. "the full monty" Cant wait to get them back...have a great day...

It would really be cool if you report back to this thread on how your suspension works out for you after you get it all back and installed on your bike and you've had some time to ride with it. I'd like to hear what you think, as suspension is the "final frontier" for me. I've never, ever had suspension tuned, have always just lived with the stock setups.

Thus, would greatly benefit from your evaluation of before and after. Thanks in advance.

I believe that having your suspension set up for you and your riding style is probably the single most important thing you should do. It can transform your bike and the enjoyment you get from riding. If you get it done correctly, you will think the money very well spent!
