• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Planning a riding trip Southern California, Nevada, AZ

Looking for some advice on where to ride in that area. We are planning this trip during the Christmas break in December.

My dad will be driving his motorhome and our bikes down and we will meet him in Las vegas. It's like being a factory rider with kids and five bikes :busted:

I'd like to get some mx tracks and off road done. Stuff we dream about riding in magazines...We should have a full 10 days worth of riding time. Any racing at this time of year?

There is some great riding around Las Vegas. You might want to check out this website since they plan some good rides and often take a lot of pictures to rub it in.

I hope this isn't against an rules.

Thanks, what about Ocotillo Wells ? off road places where we can camp and ride?

We know nothing about these places other than what we can read in magazines or the web. Any of these places better for dirt bikes...I don't want to go ride with a ton of quads and/or drunks

For MX I had in mind to stop a Glen Helen... just because it's so well known everywhere. Then drive south to some off road place and slowly drive back towards las vegas again riding along the way back.

I've never ridden Ocotillo Wells but we drove by it on the way home last week from El Centro. Seems like you just park your camper, unload and hit it. Should be a few days worth of trails down there for sure Anza Borrego too, just next door and likely some riding in the hills up into Julian and Mt. Cuyamaca.

They might be racing in Johnson Valley around Christmas...hard to remember when the racing starts.

I rode Lucerne Valley to "slash X" when I was out there. It was incredibly different terrain then I've ever ridden and I enjoyed it. I was on a locals bike and he showed me around. Hopefully you can find someone out there to show you around. I'm guessing being lost in the desert isn't a good thing.

That's a great site. Makes me re-think driving into California. Around las vegas there's a ton of riding.

Even tho i live close to Ocotillo Well i do not like to ride there
Luceren valley /Johnson Valley for me are so much better. If you like everything from flat dry lake bed to super tight single track ,plus nice rocky up and down hills then Luceren/Johnson Valley are the place to go .Open area with lots of legal camping and riding .
Things to watch out for in Ocotillo
Quads all over the place
Jeeps and other 4x4 all over the place
Freestyle riders doing big jumps
Lots of flatand sandy ground
PLUS just to many people

Let me know when you are comming to town i just might be up in Lucern and can show you around been going there for 30 years
and still like to find places my tires have not been yet

Ok, I'll add this spot to my list.

What about the red sticker thing. My bikes are plated off road but are all closed circuit bikes. Should I worry about this?

If you take a look at the riding possibilities out west vs the east, you western riders have it all. Pages and pages full of riding and tracks.

Gestion,

Do you have a feel for exact dates that you are going to be down there? I always go south for a couple of weeks in December to explore and ride. Maybe we can meet up in the Southern Nevada area for a day or two.

Spark arrestors will be your only problem in the "local" spots. Off of the beaten path and the larger OHV areas not so much. I would still have it if you don't.

It will be 2 weeks starting around the 20th of december. That would be cool if I could meet with some cafehusky riders.

Most my bike already have spark arresters. Except for the 65sx and one kx85. I'll just have to get them something before we leave.
