  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Picking up a 2006 TC450, got questions

My poor little BMW G650X-Challenge isn't happy with large jumps at Nellis Dunes so I am picking up a 2006 TC450. My last Husky was a 2004 TC450 with electric start. The '06 is kick only. I never had to worry about kick starting before. Is there a procedure I should know about? I am driving to California in the morning to pick the bike up.

Next question, what is the race sag setting and how to measure it? I know it's a measurement between two points on the bike while I am on it with full gear. What are the two points and what is the measurement? If I can't get the sag I need (I'm 200 lbs with gear), where do I get new spring?

And finally, on my 04, there was some shimming required of the accelerator pump to keep it from stalling. Any such mods needed on the 06? I have been searching the forums but the bikes change so much from year to year, it's hard to determine what is applicable or not.

Thanks for any replies and yes, I'm happy to be back :)

i have a tc 510 and im not a very big guy, pretty easy to start. just needs some solid kicks and your good. when hot the red hot start works like a charm thing fires right up first kick. just had the whole bike rebuild and i am in the process of installing a estart kit from a te , no need but just makes it easier on me since i mostly trail ride. im not to sure about the race sag i just had the suspension fit to my size but he never adjusted anything.i have had good luck with my husky , i have diffrent gearing in it now and have no issues with stalling at all i run a stock gearing in front and 51 on the back

I had the same 2006 tc 450 for a few years. Great all around bike and I wouldn't mind still having one. Mine started super easy every time, though I have heard of some having problems with the auto decompression malfunctioning and causing kickbacks. Not super uncommon to hear of people having broken cases around the kickstart shaft because of this. Also some broken kick start shafts themselves. I would look into the auto decompression mechanism and make sure you have the upgraded one. Like I said, mine was super easy to start without any "procedure" so I always just got on and kicked. Maybe do a search here or call a good dealer like Halls, Motoxotica or Bills to get those details.

The sag is 101-102 mm. this is measured from the axle to a fixed point on the rear fender. Where the rear fender and side panel meets is where I took my measurements.

I installed a JD jet kit on mine and it was pretty much on as far as jetting. There is a thread somewhere on thumpertalk about how to wire the accelerator pump closed. I did this and it made a positive difference.
