• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Picked Up A Pseudo Husky!

Husqvarna
AA Class
I found this on Craigslist and picked it up yesterday. I'm a year out of the "vintage" category as defined here on CH but the 2 stroke category doesn't get as excited about barn finds and restorations etc.

It's an 89 Cagiva WMX 250. It took some work just to I.D. the bike but thankfully Hall's was there to help. Not sure if I'm going to part it out or rebuild it. Parts are hard to find, especially the plastics. So far I know I need a carb, air filter, filter cage, front brake lever with resevoir and clutch lever. If I rebuild it, it will probably be as a Husqagiva. I'm a little behind on my mechanical knowledge so if nothing else it will give me a cheap chance to take apart a motor and see how everything works and goes together.

Did I mention I only paid $125****************************************

I remember that those Cagiva engines were super fast. I believe local pro and magazine test rider Pete Murray rode for the factory. Also former western region SX champ Willie Surratt rode for the factory. They really made those bikes fly

I've heard they're great engines and virtually the same engine they still use. I may be able to find motor parts but finding decent plastics may be near impossible. I'm going to see if DC Plastics carry's the Husky plastics and see if they fit. Not sure if I'll find a tank though.

Any one know how to strip paint off of plastic?

Prior to purchase I contacted Halls with the frame number and they ID'd it as an 89 250 wmx. I pulled the engine yesterday and realized the engine is stamped 88-XXXX. Would this represent an 88 model year? It's very hard to find info on the internet. I also looked under parts diagrams on Halls site and saw that Husky was not imported in 89 so I guess that Cagiva was not that year as well. This would make it even more unlikely that it is an 89. Any help?

it's a very good motorcycle this 250 WMX !
1989 HUSQVARNA is italian ! not sweden !
(brothers Castiglione property ! )
mixed CAGIVA/HUSQVARNA it's possible
after 1990 is HUSQVARNA only in dirt !
parts possible in Italia !
(excuse my english bad ! )

You're right Dave. I pulled up the bike specs / diagrams for each model year around 89. It's the same motor as the 90 250 so any parts I need should be the same.
