• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Petcock choice???

Husqvarna
AA Class
I've got a 1976 360WR and looking to replace my petcock. I wanted to get some opinions ...

Husqvarna-parts.com....................$32 or OEM $67

vintage husky..... $55

speed & sport.....$28

I have sourced from Vintage Husky ..and had a couple petcocks fail. Yes Karcoma (sp?) John replaced them without questions.

There are sites that have these petcocks specifically, of course now I don't have the link but feel free to research.

If you're not looking for your 360WR to be completely OEM then I'd go with the one from Speed and Sport for $28 and save your $ for something else. But, if you want to keep your bike looking as stock as possible then the Karcoma would be the one to go with. IMO the $28 Italian petcock is just as good as the $67 German one.

I bought 2 of the karcoma ones for $67 and had to send them back to Husqvarna parts for a credit. Bike would be flooded after sitting with the petcock off, had a drip every few minutes with the hose off.
Been very happy with $28 version for a rider.

I replaced the inside rubber piece and burnished it flush to the new rubber till the rubber was shiney using the lever. Then I assembled it and it was tight and ok. Maybe the new ones that drip may need to be burnished too?

I just turned the lever till it wore a seal completely across the rubber.

That one has a reserve and seems to have two screens of differing mesh. If I was getting another whole petcock it would have a reserve feature. Those look similar to the replacement ones for the 55-69 BMW twins but with only one place for a hose not two. The earlier ones had a cork cylinder of sorts inside. There were repair kits for the replacement ones though I havn't needed any lately. A sheet of rubber roofing with a few holes might approximate the main piece in the kit.

The late 70's and 80's style pedcock the Suzuki '72 ts 185 the rubber seal inside the pedcock can be squeezed into fitting the husky pedcock to rebuild it. I just burnished the lever into the rubber once it's installed so it's sealed then I install the snap ring. It's tight but it seals and functions.

The only problem I can see is will the new blend of gas effect the older rubber maybe or maybe not.

I use these new Italian petcocks on all my Huskys, Pentons and Maicos (all use the same thread) from various sellers. No way in the world I would pay $70 for a Karcoma petcock.

They work great and are new, not 35 years old.

For whatever it is worth I had a new Reproduction and used it for a trail ride. The Spring Clip that holds it together popped out and I was able to walk back down the trail and find it ! 20 minutes riding and the same thing happened again. After finding the Clip for a second time I figured my luck was running out and called it a day. I don't recall who I bought it from, maybe it was just 1 in a 100 bad ones.
