  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Pegs and seat recommendations for 2012 TXC310

Hello fellow riders.

new to the fold and really it's been about 10 years since I've do any real dirt ridding. I picked up a 2012 TXC310 that's seen some use but over all seems in good condition. I'm the 3rd owner and it looks like the two before me did an OK job. I'm a little older 45, and like wires without electrical tape and the such.

Anyway the previous owner to me looked about my size and weight but both pegs are in need of replacement and the seat has some rips in it. I'm looking for recommend on seat cover and also pegs.

I've done some looking around and found both Fast Way and Pivot Pegs seem to be popular choices. Just wondering if I should look at others. I plan to do some enduro races in my area but I'd hardly call myself hardcore.

for the seat cover I've read reviews of guts racing and seat concepts and just wondered if I should look at others.

thanks in advance

Joe

There are folks that swear by fastway and also by pivot pegs. No doubt they are good products. There are some other options as well.

Scroll down and they have both std and low pegs.

I think ZipTy has some peg options available also.

A few of us bought some black CNC pegs off of ebay for a great price of $49.00 but now when I look, they have the black ones marked up to match the red ones at $149-159. There are some blue ones for $59 but I think they would look awful on your bike. I am kicking myself for not picking up a couple more of the black ones when they were $49.00.

Warp9 also has some nice looking pegs for around $100.

I saw those 49.00 ebay blue pegs and wondered why some colors were more other the other. I will keep an eye on them and check out others.

cheers. Joe

I am not much help with the other question(seat) as I tend to be satisfied with stock seats. My 630 does have a seat concepts seat and it is very comfy.

I emailed the guy on ebay to ask if he would sell any of the other colors at the 49.00 price.

Per the seat. It's not that I'm unhappy rather it's got some small rips around the edges from general use by the previous owner and I was just looking for a cost effective solution to replacing the seat. I figured someone must make covers? or can you get a cover from the dealer.

I did contact the seller on ebay about the pegs. He said they have run very low on the black and red so the price has go up. In 3 weeks or so they will have another big order and will drop the price again so I guess just hold tight. There are a few people selling very clean used foot pegs so I'll got that route for 25.00 and can keep an eye on the others.

Congrats on the bike, Joe! I think you're going to like it.

Here's a little secret I've used to extend the life of seat covers that have small (less than an inch) rips. Mix up a little two-part epoxy from the hardware store. Dribble a little bit into the tear. Place a small piece of electrical tape over the tear. Wait a day and then peel the tape. This should prevent further extension of the tear in the cover.

Now, there are some drawbacks to this technique. The main one being that when you finally do replace the cover, the epoxy will stick to the foam, possibly tearing a small chunk out. But if you're careful and maybe use a blade to shave the epoxy off the foam, there shouldn't be any real damage. Also, it's not as pretty as a new cover!

Guts racing makes some nice seat covers that should make you happy. I have the tall foam medium density. Feels perfect to me and pretty cheap too.

Hey Thanks guys. for the info. I just ordered a used clean set of pegs off fleebay for a fair price and after i get all the fluids replaced and tend to some other bits the seat will be the next thing. I may try the cheap fix but the covers from guts due seem like a fair price. so i may go that route.

I was told by a local owner that I could run rotella 5W40 diesel oil which is what I've run in some of my jetta's in the past so that's nice. He also said 50/50 coolant was fine but I've run 60/40 Coolant/water in most of my road bikes.

Hi, Was wondering if anyone out there has a 2012 txc 310. Looking at trading in my 2012 wr300 because I want an electric start and want to do some road riding. How are these bikes in general and are they decent for doing some street riding. Mostly back roads. And do they have the wiring set up in them already for lights etc... like my wr has. Thanks and any input would be appreciated

Hey Craig,

You might do better off posting a new thread on this question but I can tell you the TE would be better then the TXC model. I live in NJ and able to get a plate for my TXC but I wouldn't consider taking it down the street often. I mostly did it so I could ride on state land and get insurance. The TE is set up for the street so it's just a matter of going to the DMV after you buy it.

I've only owned mine a short time but so fat I'm very happy. Once thing to consider is parts. I've got a few dealers in my area so it's no issue.

The TXC with it's 13/50 gearing doesn't do too great on the road. Mostly likes being on the trail, especially the tight stuff. That being said it will work on the road but you will be soon looking for a trail to jump on.
