  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Wats the go with these type of links? Hava spare n my normal type joiner is toast so was gonna use this one. How do u peen/mushroom them over? Cheers

There is a special tool that you can use with a chain breaker. Or you can try peening it over by using a ball bearing and a c-clamp. the bearing fits in the little divot of the rivet. If you try the c-clamp route just go a little at a time so you don't over do it and make the link jam up. Its a bit of a pain in the arse but it can be done that way. I usually only see the peened over type on street bikes. Good luck :)

Ahh I see. No chain breaker/tool on hand. Yeah dunno why it came with this type of joiner. Might jus grab a clip type at bike shop in the am instead. Cheers

Me being of the bush mechanic persuasion I'd use two hammers(re bottom draw)one behind and peen the pins over,I think this type of master link is suposed to be stronger and more reliable than clip type so i'd be tempted to use it.

Yeah, that's basically a permanent link too. Not good if you like to remove your chain. I've never had clip type fail and I like to remove my chains and soak/clean once a month or so.

Didn't hav much time to muck around as hav visitors so jus grabbed a did vx2 master link for $7 from husky shop. Job dun. Mite use peen type wen put new chain n sprockets on soon! Cheers

Btw runnin 2 master links as had to extend chain a while back to fit a 50t sprocket.

Shit haha well guess I'll see how she goes!!! Done 5 hours or so already so fingers crossed. Gotta order coupla new chains soon!
