    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Pc Racing Pc116 Ss Oil Filter For X-lite Models (info)

Just letting y'all know I've got an email into PC concerning the PC116 SS oil filter that I was planning to use in my 11 310. It did not measure up to the OEM spec filter size spec. It was too long/tall and filled the spring gap of the spring washer and pressed up hard against the inner case oil pump pressure feed side, this would have prevented proper oil flow around the filter to and through the outer element. (basically the oil would have been going through the bypass valve for the most part). I even flipped the rubber grommet on the outlet/cover side and gained a little but still not enough for my satisfaction. This is by no means a slag on PC Racing, just a note to all concerning the fit of that particular filter in the Husky X-Lite 250/310 machines (it fits in other brands according to the label). I am waiting for their answer, but really I did not ask them anything , just informed them about the no-go for proper fit. I offered to send them all the dims for the OEM filter as well as what I found with theirs. RN
PS I have a Scotts SS filter on the way (more $).
 
The PC Racing PC116 SS oil filter does not fit X-Lite series engines. I assume its the dim of the older model 250-310 engine (but not sure, not measured).

The Scotts 2172 SS oil filter is the proper dim and measures the same as the OEM X-Lite series motor oil filter.
So at the moment if you want to use an Stainless steel oil filter in your X-Lite machine the Sootts Performance 2172 is the one to use.
 
Add-on, Again this is not a dig on PC Racing just an informational note, see below.
PC Racing took immediate action and phoned me directly with questions concerning the fit issue to get it dialed in. I am sending them the dims of the OEM filter so they can match it up or go out to manufacture, or not. I think there are a series of filters in production/catalogged and they get the ones that fit for desired apps. Good customer service from PC Racing.

Robert, I missed this original posting and I just got one of these PC116 filters via mail for my 2010 TC250 ... Can you explain a little more on what the issue is by using these pics ... I'm not not really following how this all works ... I read your words and I'm not doubting them, but I'm just not up to speed on oil filters of any type really ..

The paper element is the HF 116 ...

Also, did you get a response back from PC yet?

as explained above the original PC116 filter was was too "tall" when standing on it's ends (your pic 2). The dim exceded the dims of the OEM (proper fit of course) paper filter.
The mechanics of the OEM oil system are thus that the oil comes from center case goes through the floating spring gap created by the circular spring washer (very important component) pushes through the outside of the filter into the inside then into the cover oriface and up the hose to the top end. If the filter becomes clogged the center bypass check valve (your pic 3) will be pushed open and the oil would flow from the center case straight through the filter in bypass mode. With the filter being dimensionally too long it bottoms out the spring washer against the center case not allowing proper flow to the outside of the filter effectively putting the filter in check valve bypass all the time as oil pressure comes up. Luckily this would not cause a loss of oil as long as the check valve spring is the proper spec, it would only cause constant unfiltered oil to go straight to the top end. Again I must say PC1 responded to my info with immediate interest and good customer service, they are a good US company. I have not checked in with them at all since then, because that is their biz now.
I all ready have a Scotts in my bike and Ive used Scotts for years. I would like the Cafe crew to know that our MilSpec aircraft all use SS type filters in both hydraulic and the engine oil systems, I am a believer in these type of filters. RN
 
Ok and thanks again for the info ... I just don't see the height difference in pic 2 between the 2 filters ... Unless the HF paper filter I was showing as a correct gauge is too long also ... OR PC1 has corrected the size and that filter is the right fit now ... Or maybe I need to return it ?

I have no problems with SS filters either ... My 08 model bike ran one almost its entire life without any problem till the life just ran out of the bearings and I don't think that had anything to do with my oil being dirty ....

(by only looking at it) The height of the rubber seal/gromet on the PC is thicker and increases the Length of the filter- Looks like if you swap the rubber seal/gromet from the HF filter onto the PC filter it may be the same length...?? maybe? Have to have them in hand or measure the OD length from the seal face/gromets to the base.

I used my calipers to measure the body of each. the body of the original (pre discussion with PC) SS one was longer than the body of the OEM one. In addition the "rubber" grommet of the SS one had a higher overall height than the OEM one which also increased the overall height (length). Like I said I even pulled the SS filter rubber grommet and swapped it thinking it may have a lower over all height installed the other way. If you all want my dims I must have them somewhere, but I just assumed this was a dead matter. Maybe you want to contact PC Racing again and verify that they have made the size correction to the callout on the Husky X-Lite filter. But If the size is now the same they must have made the correction for the issue that was pointed to them (and just kept the nomenclature-name the same). That is a good thing. I am done with this issue. The answers are all there. No more time on this for me. R
 
About to buy some filters w/one paper HF left.... Scott's $89 delivered in CA. PC Racing $30+ or so. If nothing has evolved size wise (re: the PC) I will stick with the Scott's for my 13 310. Appreciate any current wisdom.

Now I have to mention that all good filters can be compromised by bad installations, no matter the quality... When I got my bike back recently from service, I found three things: 1) oil filter in backwards! 2) radiator hose jammed against radiator so gas tank would not seat properly and probably would have led to a failure. 3) Fuel line between petcocks routed over coil/plug fine wires with enough pressure to load fuel line at left petcock, pulling, stretching it and ignition wires would have failed also in short order. I noticed all this simply since my tank shrouds didn't fit right. I re-routed and remedied the issues. I go through this with all vehicles. "Trust and Verify"... Then alter maintenance/service practicies, but usually comes down to doing it all myself.
 
Rays pics tell the good news story the dims match now, (or by then) my first order PCR filter is visually taller than the oem filter.
 
Glad to see this topic get some clarification. I am ordering a PC filter and will keep my HiFlo as a spare.
 
I have ordered a pc-116 stainless steel oil filter for my husqvarna txc310 2013 based on the above information.

I do have a question though and that is why there is one hiflo filter hc 116 (which I was sold by my dealer for my bike) for the same years as Scott's stainless filters which have two models this has caused me the last two hours to research whether the filter will work or not as most sites also , or at least ebay listings list a different filter pre 2010 than post.

hate to bring this up but before reading this I purchased a PCR filter for my sons tc250r and yes it is higher than HF paper one so I pulled the rubber seal out and turned it around reducing the height.
I also have a PCR fitted to my bike a te310 so I pulled it out to check and it is actually the right length so it appears to have a different seal fitted.
I also have four HF paper filters hanging around and they vary in length by approx. 1-2mm so I assume the spring washer and the dimensions of the cavity and filter cap allow for a certain tolerance?
