  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

OOOH SNAP, my kick lever hit the ground!

Hello, I have a 2008 510TE. During my first ride this year in WAY upstate NY I stalled. I realized I left the key on for a bit after getting some water out of my pack and drained my battery:doh: . So I kicked a few times, then I kicked my lever off and busted the kick start shaft:mad: ! Bought new shaft, o-ring, and gasket from Halls:thumbsup: . I would love someone to share the process of changing this. I have no dealers around and would like to do this myself. Is this hard to replace? Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks! I looked at this before, I wish it showed the angle from the other side. Any clue if the replacement parts are stronger? I have never broke a shaft with any other bikes but see its a common problem with this bike.

Be very happy you broke the shaft and not the actual case. I have no idea why, but husky never figured out how to build a kick starter system for the 4 strokes. The kicker lever falls off, you break the shaft, or you destroy the case. 1 of the three will happen at some point. I tell peeps the kick lever is only there for looks and imagine it isn't there. I think they put a lot of engineering into the Magic button though, as the e start system is one of the best in the business apparently. My dealer has never sold a starter motor in his 15 years of business. :)

please CLEAN that thing first?

the gasket is reuseable, be nice. watch out for the oil pump o-ring inside the cover towards the front, it's obvious.... during reasbly a dab of grease will hold it still. easy job. take yer time. keep track of dowel pins in case, snap pics with phone as you go. drain oil first to control the mess. etc.
