• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

ok my dumb two posts, explaining.

I purchased a complete 82 husqvarna 250wr engine so the seller thought. I counted the amount of the air cooled fins and there was 9 straight fins. The 250 has 5 angled fins on the cylinder maybe 6 but not 9. Having 9 fins it's the newer case it's a 430cc. I'll I had to go by in the pic was the "9" nine fins on the cylinder. "I love big bore husqvarnas"

Now my dumb question is how do I tell if it's a WR or XC?

Is the 82 430 wr has the SEM ignition? Wr cylinder.

Is the 82 430 xc has the Motoplat larger flywheel? What else is different in an xc besides the standard wr tranny? Does the xc have the cr porting?

My last '83 430 wr Sem ignition bike was a tractor this bike you could lug it and go just about anywhere. I'm not sure what ignition is in my new 430cc engine yet. The case number is 2087. So it's a wr tranny but the motor could be an xc? The cr porting has two added ports on both sides of the reed openings right?

I know some husqvarna things I learned through the years on my own but the actual difference between an XC and WR bike I'm not sure about in 1982?

Thanks for all your help now and in the past.

Thanks guys great info. I'm trying to figure out which 430 it is. Well check it out. Then I'll post what I have.
The piston looks great but time does take its toll. I'm going to go through the engine anyway.

Beaware....

82 250MP (military/police) WR #2087 case number(bigger clutch?) but the 250 has the smaller diameter crank balancers? The 250 case is different.

82 430 wr #2087 case number also. Larger crank diameter balancers.

The number "9" comes into play its the nine fins on the taller 430 cylinder with the 74mm stroke.

The 9 fins also comes into play with the 390cc cylinder. The bore and transfer ports are different. The stroke on the 390 is 71mm. The later 390 stud dimension is the same as the 430. Using a 3mm base spacer with two base gaskets and porting the 390 transfer ports to match the newer case you'll have a 400cc/420cc I haven't researched it that far yet.

Many of the SEM ignitions failed right away and were replaced with Motoplats, so if it still has an SEM it was a WR but a Motoplat does not mean it was originally in an XC.

Also, the '81 430 WR/XC had the same engine number so it could be an '81 if the cylinder is painted black and I THINK (not positive) that both had Motoplat ignitions in '81.

The head and cylinder are bare alumimum. Looking through the exhaust port she is a 430cc and the 2087 number means its a wr tranny.

The 82 models are the same The WR s came with SEM ignitions and XCs came with Motoplats as Brian mentioned. Out of 3 82 WR engines I have 1 250 and 430 engine each have Motoplats and the 2nd 250WR engine came with SEM.

I have one complete 82 430 engine and I just purchased another 430 complete case/complete with crank/tranny. The complete lower 430 case is going to get the 390 cylinder ported and built to the hilt. I want my son to be the pilot and put the old husky on the map here. I did run a 40mm carb on a stock 390cr by changing the needle jet. I dialed the carb right in. The 390 had a lot of hit and you needed to be an experienced rider to control it. Id like to try the 40mm carb again but this time with the internal motoplat cr ignition. Id like to build one wild scary earth churning ride.
