  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Oil Spewing Out Air Box??

reaganbart

Husqvarna
Have just done an oil change using Motorex Top Speed 4T 10W50. Rode probably 10km and had oil spewing everywere, on inspection it seemed to be coming out of the air box and air filter was saturated in brand new oil.

Anybody else had an issue like this, or know anything about what is up with it??

The engines are very fussy about oil volume.
Seems best at no more than 1150ml.
If over filled, high rpm pushes oil out the breather hose.

There's a cool looking breather kit on the site here if it worries you from Zipty.

I've only over filled mine once, then paid more attention each time after.
I only ever get a little oil on the filter at worst.

Also recommended by Zipty, that oil may be a little thick.
Those guys run a 0w40 oil.
I have a 5w 40 in mine for the hot QLD climate.

Oil pressure isn't as important as oil flow, thin oils flow better.

Thanks DM.

We run 0W40 in our 449/511's. Not only does 50W oil tend to drag the dds clutches, over time it will seize the rod bearing and cause premature wear to your cylinder and rings. 1150cc is the maximum oem fill, although some of my customers successfully run as much as 1300cc.

Cheers Mate! What brand of oil do you use?
My brother had a full bottle of the Motorex 10W50 in the corner of the shed, and it needed an oil change pretty bad so I used it.

Went riding with a guy that has a te 511and when we stopped he had oil all over from his airbox , not to mention his whole rear fender fell off , signals plate the whole piece , bike only had 800 miles on it .

Hey Tinken, love your thoughts here mate. I run 10/50w in Australia. It can be quite hot in Summer and cold (for us, not US standards) in winter, would your guidance be -0 40w on my 310's (2010 model)?

Cheers.

Depends where in the US, I live in the desert. I've lugged my engine through rocky canyons at 42°C running 0W40, no issues after tear down. M1 might be hard to find in AUS, I would recommend Penrite 5W40.

Sorry to cut in again, just some info.
Castrol's full synthetic bike oil, Power1 racing (for Aus market) is 5w-40, a 'halfway' oil so to speak, good for our hot climate riding.
The Mobil 1 is also available here in several viscosities.

Still spewing out despite draining oil again and only putting in 950ml of oil??

Frustrating problem!!
It will push oil up through the torque limiter regardless of how much oil is in the crankcase. Once oil is pushed through the breather, it maintains a siphoning effect and it keeps coming. The best way to combat this issue is not to use this oem breather opening at all and add a new breather to the valve cover. Any oil that comes from the valve cover can be collected in the side tank which I designed for this engine and then returned back safely to the crankcase while blow by fuel is safely re-burned.
