  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Oil return hose. Bad location?

2011 TE 310. Anyone had any issue breaking or tearing the oil return hose on the right side? I assume it is called oil return hose. Not a great location. I can see that hose being a problem in heavy low brush or falling over. I plan to carry an extra one and making some protection for it. What are the engineers thinking?

Agree with you its a bad location, But its been like that for a few years now in the 250's and I have not read anybody break it. But my concern in the TE 310 2011, is the long vent hose from the drain plug all the way to the top of the frame. The 2010 TE 250 or the TXC 250 dont have that, instead they have a proper oil plug bolt. Have anybody pull out this hose and replace the drain bolt ?

IF it goes from the valve cover to the airfilter boot it is possitive cranckcase ventilation. Maybee
you could just zip tye it to the bike in a couple of places. If you do tear it off, it is not the end of the world, and you can still ride it home, since its always 'breathing out' stuff won't get sucked in. The valve cover elbow on my bike was kind of cheesy and had to be replaced (with something else plastic and kind of cheesy from ACE).
(I have an 08 TE 510)

I think he means the external line, lots of race hours by some fairly tough guys (world class) under extreme conditions, have not heard or anyone damaging the line.
PS design logic is for weight, internal passages mean more engine casting,
PPS this forto is the new prototype 250 but has a good view of the line. The MXGP team has it wrapped with anti chafe spiral wrap.

It's an oil feed line.

Check it or even safety wire it.

Mine came loose on 1st ride and pumped all the oil out of the motor.

"brake-snake" them suckers if ya even think they'd be veunerable. factory's dont do it as it costs way to much for hand labor like that. on my 07 TC (not the same i know) i zip-ty all my lines down and anti-chaffe hoses etc...

goodnight that some pretty bike porn Rob!!!

on another note the proto new 250 motor looks like a full on chain driven cam arrangement instead of the current chain to gears to cam set up. (less rotating mass) chains are very old school, but are still the ticket for low mass drives.

yep keep the oil clean and chain on sprocket usually out does gear on gear in some cases has a lot of backlash damping qualities, ease of making etc...esp hyvo's!
