  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Oil Issue

A Class
So I just bought a new 2013 TE511 and am in love with the bike. I'm coming off a KLR 650 and am so glad to be on a lighter bike for more peppy off-roading.

I have discovered an oil leak on my lower right side of the motor. It's just running all over the right side. I have read on here something about an oil breather issue. But I have yet to come across any real description of the problem or the solution. I don't know if this is what I'm experiencing or not.

Can anybody shed some light on this issue for me? Thanks much!

So where is this oil breather vent that seems to be the source of oil puking? Can someone post a pic? I've only had the bike a week and I've got a lot to learn about it. I'm not even sure yet where the oil is coming from but it's all over the lower right of the motor.

So I took some time to try to locate the source of my oil issue and I think it's actually fuel coming out of the overflow tube behind the cylinder. I know, what a dumbass assuming it was oil. I assumed that based on having read about these bikes puking oil on this forum and seeing the dirty fluid on the motor while out on the trail. I didn't really examine it closely until today. But it's clear and smells like fuel.

So anybody had this issue? Is it because I overfilled the tank? What would cause this?

Check the fuel vent line on top of the forward fuel cell. This sometimes leaks near the top. This vent line flows back to the rear fuel cell near the cap on the left hand side. There is an additional vent line on the right of the rear fuel cell. This goes through a one way check valve and would normally go to your charcoal canister which I am assuming you have removed?

Rather than routing this to the ground like most owners do, I have attached it to the clean side of my air box. When racing these models, we used to plug up the vent lines by just routing out to the ground. I would check this path for your leak.

Mine was pissing gas out of the overflow because the gas was boiling and creating pressure. I wrapped the header and FMF mid-pipe with Titanium Wrap, and put some cool tape on the lower right tank. Seems to have helped a lot. I've posted pics of mine all fixed up.
