• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Ode To The `03 Sawmill Enduro

The rains came at midnight, glad my van was water-tight.
The place was a swamp when I woke up.
As night turned to dawn, Tech said the race was on
Even though the rains never let up.

I arrived at the start with a sinking heart,
The river was raging and wide.
As the clock flashed my minute, I thought, "I can win it!"
And fired the GasGas to life.

I crossed the big river, with nary a shiver,
Not knowing what would lie ahead.
I would give it my best, though without my life vest,
I'd probably end up drowned instead.

Yet it ain't being dead that was my awful dread.
That wouldn't make me cry or pout.
It was, you see, and I'm sure you'll agree,
The thought of houring out!

With a bit of remorse I followed the course
I didn't think the creeks were that deep.
But it wasn't long before I knew I was wrong-
The water was over my seat!

I plunged in headfirst, expecting the worst,
And the current took me for a ride.
I thought all was lost (what's this race going to cost?)
Til I saw Cindi on the other side!

Her motor had died, and she was just fried,
But she dived in and grabbed `hold my bars.
Had it not been for her, I'd have lost my bike for sure.
It's hard to swim in Alpinestars.

We made it to shore, there were 20 bikes or more
stranded there on the beach.
We flipped our bikes over, dewatered our motors
A technique I was happy to teach.

Now Cindi is in it-always-to win it
But she was losing time fast.
Got her KTM started, up Sled Ridge she darted
In her quest for the B-200 class.

After kicking a bit, I got my bike lit.
Watch out, C-Open class!
Although at my pace, it was hardly a race.
My ICO could've been an hourglass.

I came to Sled's hill, and gathered my will.
I was starting to get cold and queasy.
Dumped the hydraulic clutch, gave it gas, not too much
And my trials tire made the rest easy.

I crested the top, the rain wouldn't stop,
And I seriously thought I'd give in.
But when rain turned to snow, I thought, "Hell no!"
"I want that finisher pin!"

I do not know how long in the snow
I pushed on towards the next gas.
But through the snow flurries, I saw, in a hurry,
4 riders headed towards me hauling ass.

It seems that the rangers had realized the dangers
And decided to put a stop to this race.
I whipped the GasGas around, headed for lower ground,
A huge smile on my frozen face.

My score card said zero, but I felt like a hero.
After all, I had survived the hell.
This tale is all true, and I can assure you,
I'll pre-enter next year as well!
