    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

O2 Sensor question.

Just purchased a new 2010 TE-250 and will be removing the canister, air filter intake silencer, and catalytic converter.
As this bike is fuel injected……wouldn’t it be better to keep the O2 sensor in place?
This sensor is part of the electronics that regulate the fuel metering thus allowing for correct elevation, humidity and atmospheric pressure.
Why does everyone remove the O2 sensor (other than a plug is included with the bike)? Thanks
 
The O2 sensor that comes with the bike is a narrow band sensor and doesn't adjust the fuel that much. It isn't like the O2 sensors that are on cars or the one that is used with the Power Commander Auto Tune kit. The Husky has other sensors that check for the other variances that you mentioned. When you take out the O2 sensor and put in the resistor plug it tricks the computer into thinking it is always in a certain parameters.
 
Was told that they are the same. I left the 02 sensor in place (looks better for traffic police) and tied the lead to the frame under the saddle.
 
I was told by the Dealer that disconnecting the O2 sensor and plugging in the by-pass plug would void the warranty, so....I may just remove the catalytic converter & charcoal canister, and leave the O2 hooked up.
Hopefully the JD Jetting Power Surge being installed will smooth out the throttle response.
 
Yeah when you take out the O2 sensor it trips a code in the computer and it will void the warranty on the bike when they hook the Ibeat software to it.
 
Removing any part of the emissions control system will change your warranty. Be it the air filter cage, the catalyst, the o2 sensor and yes even the throttle stop. So if any of these components are removed then your warranty is not necessarily void, just reduced to six months. But question your dealer as to your bike specific warranty, they differ.

Not 6 months in the US. I think it either voids it entirely or drops it to 30 days, I forget which.
 
Yeah the bikes in the US start out with a 6 month warranty only. According to George at Up-Tite it voids the warranty or at least that is what I remember him saying here on the forums.
 
Hmm. A few months late to this thread but I just bought a new 2011 and the dealer had it un-corked before I got there so they in effect voided the warranty? Its only a six month warranty in the US anyway. Funny ..they were trying to sell me a 48 month extended warranty for 600 bucks. How would that work with all the emissions off?
 
Do not worry so much about the warranty. These bikes are very reliable if maintained. Jap bikes that can even compare ? come with no warranty and a RED sticker in CA. That said,a good Husky dealer will stand up for the product the sell. Don't we have a "LEMON" law in CA??? Plan B.
 
The husky is a good bike engine wise but that doesn't mean the jap bikes are bad. I know a few people that have wr250f's of varying years and they all have been bullet proof.

The power up voiding the warranty is just plain silly. I cant possibly see why this is the case. The 02 sensor and rest are there for "street emissions" only. To have a certain contend of co2, co and hydro carbons. Powering up makes the bike run not only better but safer for the engine. A richer and cooler running engine will last longer.

I'm not calling anyone a liar, especially when you've been told the info you've been told. My dealer on my 11 told me I have a 1 year warranty and offered(with fee of course) to do the power up and de restricting before I let the shop with it. I think I will clear this up with them just out of my curiosity what my warrant includes and length.

Nope. Not for motorcycles. Applies to cars and trucks ONLY!
 
When i bought my 10' TE 250 it came with the power up installed.But with the O2 sensor in place and with the CAT probably still in the exhaust. I asked the dealer about taking the O2 sensor out.He told me if it runs good leave it there. If I take it out will it have a good difference in engine performance and will I need to re-flash my ECU with I-beat at the dealer because of this.
 
A dealer told me in no uncertain terms, that the PowerUp mods to a Husky in the USA, reduce the standard 6 month warranty to the 30 day Competition warranty, like on the race bikes.

I would like for someone to show me or tell me what device, like a mass airflow sensor, that allows a PoweredUp Husky to reduce the amount of gas used when I am at 8000 feet above sea level. I get 40mpg at 800 feet and I get 40mpg at 8000 feet. And the bike runs like its running rich as heck at 8000 feet.
