• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

NW Gathering 2013: Oct 24th-27th @China Hat

Clete,
Great to meet you and ride with you. Thanks for leading us around.
We weren't really lost, there were just moments of uncertainty. All part of the fun of riding.

Right, next year we'll spend more time and knock off more cool trails.
The trails are so good, it's worth a trip before next year.
Dave

Nice meeting you also Clete and Dave it was a pleasure as always... we need to take Russ up on the May thing I'm thinking :)

Yes, a pleasure it was ....another great time. I think you're right about a May 2014 trip. Russ, keep us posted for next year.

Typically I go over there in the springtime (depending on weather) every other week and some times every week. It is the best time of the year to experience epic riding conditions. Until you have been there and hit the conditions just right you have no idea what it is like (think high and fast in the corners). Traction is unbelievable everywhere, makes it easier for an old fart like me!
I have suggested several times (since the first get together) that the Fall Gathering be changed to the Spring Gathering.:D
Hell yes sounds like a good idea

Early is a bit of an understatement. While I knew I didn't bring the warmest sleeping bag in the world...I couldn't sleep later than 5:30 and that was even after I had put on every single piece of clothing I owned, had a candle lantern going all night, and even used sleeping bag and tent cases as booties.

No dice.

I broke down camp, attached myself to my motorcycle via electric vest, and spent the next 80 miles fighting fog, road frost, and helmet frost.

Warming up at a diner in Prineville before dawn, 4 cups of coffee, warm grub, and heading east out of town in the warming sun was heaven. ;)

Still a great weekend. Riding a Husky 300 miles each way to meet you characters, seeing nooks and crannies of Oregon, and doing it all from a motorcycle was a big treat!

Matt, great stories of your adventure riding. Cool Strada/Terra, I forgot to bug you about seeing the M60s in operation.

I came back from the fire that night and started my Honda gen for a bit to bring the batteries up. I fell asleep and it ran for hours. I hope that didn't contribute to your insomnia.
BTW, since you were that cold, I wish you had knocked on my door.

Weather in May compared to what we just had at China Hat? (Especially interested in night temps).

Or maybe a 2x/year event?

I live in Bend and just picked up an 07 WR 250. We rode four corners Millican on Saturday to get a feel for the bike and to make sure everything was working properly. Then Sunday we headed out to China Hat. We pulled into the 25 camp on Sunday morning to our surprise it was full of Huskys. The wind was blowing like crazy so we headed out on the trails and figured I would see what was up when we got back. Well as most of you know the weather turned. It rained, snowed and hailed. We got back to camp and most of you had headed out. We were cold and wet and did the same. Found this thread and hope to make it next year.
Think you might have been the people I talked to about 11am on Sunday, warning you that there were a lot of bikes on the trails and to be careful (we have had issues in the past).

Regardless, hope you can make it for the next one! :)

The chance of getting moisture earlier in the year is better but still a crap shoot. Typically though when it is cloudy rainy it is much warmer at night.
Maybe someone could do some research of weather history and come up with dates that have had the best weather in the past??

Coffee that was us. We should make the camp out next year now that we are in the know.

We ride out there quite often so are aware of oncoming traffic. That dust and whoops are just part of China Hat.

Ok, so I finally remembered the password to my photobucket account. Here are the couple of pics I snagged.

The is a fire ring in the middle, I promise. It may have melted in what was about to come. haha..

And I had to get one of the tree that I hit last year drifting in the snow with Kelly and Adam. My bumper detail was still pretty much perfect stamped into it.

Thats it! No go-pro, no other pics. I spent way to much time riding & drinking.... Oh wait, that's actually what I came to do... Not at the same time for the record.
