• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

NW Gathering 2013: Oct 24th-27th @China Hat

It is going to be tough for Jon and I to make it. Unfortunately we are still pretty committed 7 days a week through the end of October. Long way to go for just one day of riding at most but we will see. Certainly not a reason to move it as we don't know enough to take time off before the snow flies.

If you arent there we will just recycle "where's Walt" stories...but better if you show up and create new ones.

Fetch Walt? Hummmmm. I haven't had much luck in that department. I'm sure that comes as no surprise!

Those of so stupid as to be stuck working at golf courses in NW Montana, work harder in October than during the summer. It is our time to put it away before winter kicks the crap out of it. Almost every week is full. Irrigation blow out, spraying plant protectants, installing snow fences, ropes and covers, wrapping up projects all with ever decreasing staffs as our budgets run out. In other words, neither of us can make it in October. We can barely make it in early November. We certainly understand wanting to go earlier and miss all the white stuff. Think of us often as you enjoy yourselves while we toil away, alone and cold! Of course, we could both quit our jobs. Now there's an idea worth serious consideration! Cheers!

...and I would suggest that maybe we try to get together someplace further south in say....January or Feb. By then I would love a trip to CA or AZ to escape the interminable drizzle.

It also looks like we are hitting the short non-deer hunting window...at least on the weekend itself. As a general rule I dont ride out there until the guys with rifles go home. Unfortunately a few of them dont exercise good target choice. You know....a WR300 sounds just like a 4 point buck.

I am planning to have something at my location in the Feb/March timeframe. No details yet though. While there is not really a lot of riding at this specific location there is a bunch of neat stuff in the area.

Could you please interpret that link? Not sure what area China Hat is in.

I believe that the Cascades Deer is what is applicable to China Hat since the other choice is Coastal. Someone who actually hunts could probably give us a more definitive answer.

EDIT Incorrect information. We are actually in the Paulina Unit #35 at China Hat. See below, open Deer Season end Oct 9 in Paulina Unit (China Hat)
