• Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

While not very exciting tomorrow I plan on riding to work fr the first time this year (just got her out of my Moms basement). Have rode since December so there's some riding rust to work off.;)
 
Bike slowly cranked over this morning when it was 30 degrees outside. When I went home for lunch she turned right over...I was hoping that it was cold related and not the battery

Hard starting in the morning because it hadn't been started since Dec ? Trying to crank over an unlubricated engine might explain that.

I did ride it a bit yesterday. This morning sort of threw me off as I usually don't ride when its that's cold out anymore
 
I just had my Moose pannier rack installed (my shop guys had to wrestle a bit apparently, as anticipated) and added my expedition bags. I'm just putting miles on my Terra locally (PNW) to ramp up to a June trip. From Seattle to Oregon for the Giant Loop weekend June 6-7 then to No Cal and up the coast back to Seattle. I'm looking forward to being in the saddle and away for a whole ten days! My last weeklong trip was summer last year, on my XT250 with my great basin bag to the North Cascades and Slate Peak/Winthrop and back. That's a great trip from Seattle and I do it every summer. This summer will be new territory and lots of mountainous backroads!
I'm up for any suggestions for must-not-miss routes in northern California. I'm referencing Butler maps for now.
Also: Has anyone checked out MotoStays? For places to stay or to offer a bed/room for another motorcyclist to stay. That's how I plan to "camp." http://motostays.com/
 
Been lurking a while, so I suppose this thread is as good as any to serve as an intro, so here goes:

Two mates recently got bikes and I was to join them on a trip - in the backup vehicle. Having missed out on a Namibia trip years ago, I thought, "what the heck". Wanted a KTM 690E, but read too much about people having hassles. The default BM 650GS was too... well, boring for my liking. 800GS, etc I tought was too big, considering most of my riding would be on an 8km commute on the tar and I wanted something more nimble.

Then stumbled upon the Terra and immediately liked the bike :thumbsup:.
She's pretty basic at the moment. Tail piece had been cut off by previous owner, so I need to make a plan to get her through roadworthy (no licence plate/holder and/or light for the plate). She has a single Pro Circuit T5 carbon-tip pipe that sounds pretty damn good, though:cool: .

So where I'm gonna go?
The plan is to do a little trans-Lesotho. Nearest entry point is abt 450km from Jhb. Plan is to do a day each getting there and back, plus 3 days in the mountains.
Why? It's high (typically 2,500-3,000m altitude), it's typically gravel mountain roads and it's empty (or, it will be until the govt finishes tarring roads with the 'help' from the Chinese-owned mining companies). Therefore, it is still pretty unspoilt and damn beautiful.

I just need to add a few things - bash plate (probably SW-Motech), hand guards, heated grips, higher bars and possibly crash bars & lower pegs (I'm 6"1 and the seat-to-peg distance feels a little short). I'm also having the suspension raised a teeny bit and the fork preload increased a bit. Will likely make my own screen, fitted only for the longer trips. Safari makes a great set of long-range tanks, but that's probably overkill. Will likely run with a 5L soft fuel cell strapped to the back.

Edit 2: Rode cuz's 650 Dakar yesterday. I am SO glad I chose the Husky!
Will post more pics when the 1st round of mods are done.

Pic as promised - showing that T5 pipe. Every one of my friends almost wet themselves when I blipped the throttle on their 1st viewing. It really barks :D

Keen eyes will notice road tyres (for now) and the homemade licence plate jobbie. Roadworthy is done, may well lose that lot again...;)
Also, the mark on the body from when the ratchet strap slipped and she jumped away from me while solo loading her on the trailer for her 1st service. I said some nasty things...

Just returned from a 4000km trip up to Innaminka, South Australia with a group of 8 bikers. Lots of gravel, sand and bulldust. There were 3 of us on TRs - all performed flawlessly but not without incident. On guy hit a 50kg Emu at 120km/h but miraculously stayed on the bike. All said, the TR was a perfect machine for all terrain.

Awesome videos! That sand is tricky stuff - brought a few of us undone on the recent trip to Innamincka. One of the TRs will probably be written off after a nasty tank slapper. You obviously had a drone-mounted camera on your ride - works great.
