  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc Noob Husky Owner

B Class
Hi all, I just bought a 96 WXC 250. It was a one owner bike and the owner took really good care of it. I have other bikes in the stable but have never owned a husky. I was hoping you guys could give me some background on this bike. Are there things I could/should do as far as improvements? Any problem areas I should look at? Any help you could give me would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Replace/lube the chain rollers often as they tend to seize up fairly quickly especially the chain guide roller but hell of better design than the MX style chain guide sliders which you see commonly today.
The axle adjuster bolts commonly freeze up so carefully and slowly unscrew them and apply antiseize grease.
Each side of the swingarm has plug holes, pull them off and swear with a bit of silicone to stop water entering into the swingarm cavity (good time to spray some inox or anti corrosion lube down there.
Plastics are becoming harder to find as are OEM graphics expecially the white plastics that becomes brittle..up to 98-99 (with tank) should fit.
Motor and gearbox are very strong and plenty of parts available.
Might be handy to check the condition of the stator due to the age of the bike - corrosion occurs if the owner doesn't periodically open up the stator cover and cleans the condensation and dust.
The handlebar rubbers probably need replacing so check them.
Check the condition of the reeds, reed block and airboot, looking for the rubber perishing.
Showa forks and shock does well with a revalve and service.
Lastly, l don't know the carb, but if it's an old dellorto, please ditch and either grab a TMX from the later WR250's or Keihin 36-38 PWK...save's you the headache.
