  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Nomadic Rack on my TE511

Aw, crap, I bought a Nomad Tank for my 2012, I clearly specified it was for a 2012 TE511, I have not tried to fit it yet.
 
need to know! does it fit???? Kelly enquiring minds want to know? also is the bigger tank available? is that kriega water proof, or would you go with the 30? or with alpinstars tech aero?

Backpack is dust proof but not water proof,,20 liter one I'm using on top of nomad is waterproof.
I'm going to scotch guard the backpack but I don't ride rain too often so maybe 30 is better for you.
 
I'm pretty sure I have found a great way to secure some rack ankers to the triangle part of the sub frame. I am going to build a rack that bolts there and ties back into the rear of the fender with some RC buggy shock obsorbers to cushion the weight of the removable aluminum 2 gallon tank . Hopefully will be done by august lol.
 
What are rack ankers?

seems to be...
you can put it there but it does not conform well to the newer tail shape.
(maybe some strategically placed closed-cell foam...)

I think the rack is way tougher than the subframe. About 3 weeks ago cruising through some whoops (luckily in the sand) she decided she wanted to do some gymnastics without me and tossed me off:eek: Where's the love? She flipped and came down somehow, mostly on the rightside of the handlebars in such a way as to not break anything but bent them. She also hit her tail in the rightside (As did I and it still hurts....was thinking divorce for a little while)

So as you probably already know, the back of the subframe, is what looks like, a couple of 1/2" square aluminum tubes that just cantilever toward the back independently. One bent maybe a couple of inches and was easily bent back. (The handlebars took a 5' cheater with everything I had to get them back:thumbsdown:). So the angle piece for the rack mount ties the 2 subframe tubes together and the self-tappers screw into the hard plastic spacers that are screwed to the same tubes (but further up). Those are the spacers that the fender plastic sits on. So you are basically boxing the subframe in, but unfortunately not all the way (to where the tubes start to cantilever). Seems stronger??? I guess I will be straightening both tubes the next time she wants to do some ballet, just hopefully they won't bend so much as to possibly yield the material:eek:

Had about 5lbs in a bag with it bungied, blasted whoops, caught a little air, nothing moved. Obviously if I'm going to do a 100 mile ride with the 1 gal Rotopax and bag on it, this old body ain't gonna be blasting anything for very long:oldman:. And when I'm hitting whoops, I have to hang my bum all the back and I'm sure I will be hitting bag or Rotopax, because the rack spanked me a few times (shes spanked me without the rack before:busted:) on the expected-unexpected stuff that jumped out in front of me. So for me, I think this rack will work well.

I like that I can grab the very tip of the tail and drag it around, better positioning and obviously leverage. I'm not big or strong and the seat grabs are way tougher for me to drag the thing around in a tight spot. I don't know what the back half of the bike weighs, but I know you and your buddy can pick up the back with that rack and pull that beech out of the sand when your dumba$$ augers it in:applause: .....
 
I just might have to get one :) I got a chance to see his web site finally with my desk top, this iPhone wouldn't let me see anything . Does he send the rotopax adapter too ? I have a one gallon allready :)

Adaptor? I'm assuming you mean the Rotopax clamp down deal? Justin told me to order from Rotopax.
 
Justin is a very nice Dude , I wont hesitate recomend a product from a crafty fella like that . And I'm picky what goes on my bike. Seriously down right shrewd what goes on my bike.
 
I did a quick fit up with my large rolie Wolfman luggage and the Rotopax I just got. I stuffed my riding jacket in there (with pads). I think I could fit a small person in the bag :thinking:. Seems pretty sturdy......
