  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Nomad Tank and Whoops = bad combo.

SloChicken

I got a 4.5L Nomad tank for my TE511 and have had it on for a couple of trips. It has actually worked well and given me the extra range that I was looking for.

However,

I was running through a long whoop section when I felt something banging on my leg. Well, it was the tank and it had become disconnected from the bungee mounts (which I felt were a little suspect at the time of install).
It seems that the weight of the full tank plus some over-enthusiastic whoop riding was too much for it.

So,

I need to come up with a remedy to this problem.

Any ideas on ways to better secure this tank?

Otherwise it is coming off and going up on the wall of shame.

I found the supplied bungees were a little long until I hooked them together under the finder. I have had no issues with the the tank coming loose even in the whoops. But I am slower than a SLoChicken.

I have them hooked together under the fender, but frankly I find that method kind of hokey. I think I will look at a non-stretching strap and add it in addition to the bungees.
I will get it figured out, but I was a little bummed as I had to slow my riding (and fun factor) until that tank ran dry and got lighter for fear that it would jump ship again.

Admittedly, I was kind of hauling ass through the whoops (about 40-60 mph in 3' whoops skimming the tops) and sometimes the hits were pretty hard. Even still, the tank should tolerate this or it is of little use to me.

Next stop , nylon straps.

I will say the additional range is really nice.

I;m running the smaller of the two tanks so maybe thats why I have had zero issues with it. Had a few hard crashes I expected it to be gone but there it was. :) The bungies might even help some in a crash allowing it to give some.

I was concerned about the tire contacting the bungee hooks during full compression of the suspension and causing a disconnect. So I changed my setup. I used a 6.5 inch 3/16 rod. I put treads on both ends for a nylock nuts. IMG_0767.JPGIMG_0765.JPG
