• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Noisy TE630 motor

My 610 is noisy like that, its the clutch, it stops clattering when i pull the lever in.
Sounds just like my bike

Thanks Guys, thats puts my mind at rest. As the revs rise. the noise goes away, which is why I don't think in big or small end bearings.

try running the tension chain register tensioning procedure again.
foul with the piston at the top dead center in compression

Well, unfortunately my worst fears were realized, and I've got a crook big end bearing, after 17000 kms.
Pulled the head and barrel and there's way too much play in the conrod.
Trying to source a rod kit is proving difficult. Thought I found one on ebay here in Australia, but its for a 610, not a 630. (22mm wrist pin vs 19mm on the 630)
I'll probably buy one from SWM at half the price Husky charges, but SWM in Austria are on holidays till the end of August, so I can't even order it till next month!
The joys of owning an orphan!

No freakin way! wow. I never would have guessed, i suppose the positive thing is you caught it early enough for it not to cause any damage.

I’m in the exact same position right now, timing chain slipped and lunched a valve, piston and big end. Sourcing a conrod from Husky is impossible, they reckon you can only purchase the crank assembly at a stupid price.
Can anyone confirm the SWM rod is the same as the Husky as they stock it under a different part number.
Husky rod 8000H1765
SWM rod 8000H7035

I've just ordered the SWM conrod, so I'll let you know if its the same part when it arrives......from Austria! HTM Racing in Italy sell conrods for the 630, about 25% cheaper than Husky. I've studied the engines and I believe they are identical. The rods should interchange. The crankshaft part numbers are the same.
As an aside, I've spent the last 4 days trying to split the cases, without success. Its almost like I've missed a bolt, except I haven't. Starting to damage the cases a bit trying to get them apart.

A bit. Worse is the rod rocking from side to side.

How much does it rock from side to side? Ive just been and looked at a 610 bottom end i have, if i pull the crank up to the top and rock the rod, it moves maybe just under a mm either way at the little end with no noticeable play up & down.

a rough way of checking wear on a bottom bearing is to grab the rod and pull up the little end like you're choking a goose and using the palm of the other hand, bonk straight down. if it clicks, your goose is cooked.

Here's a couple of shots of my cases, almost split except for a section on the bottom which will not budge. Its got me stuffed.

Side to side movement is normal, the top of the rod rocking from side to side while the bottom remains stationary isn't. Also, the big end clicks when the rod is lifted, then hit downwards with a rubber mallet. Got the cases apart last night, finally, and the big end is definitely on the way out.
