• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Noisy rear disc brake

I thought about squeezing the mounting washers slightly until they grip the disc. This way the disc can still move when it heats up, but will not be able to rattle. I hope! I shall give it a try, and report back.
My mates RM 250 has a floating front disc, but it has spring wave washers in the grooves to stop it rattling.

Sorted the problem permanently.
I fitted a disc from a TE 449/511. It bolts straight on, although you do have to use the 449/510 bolts. No more rattling for ever!

Just did the Welsh 2 day enduro, and it performed faultlessly.

Got a solid mount rear disc from Mike at MotosportzHusqvarna for my 02 WR. Maybe available for the newer ones too? Do not have to listen to the rattle any longer.

I had noisy front and rear brakes quite a while back. I took out the pads, gave them a light rub with a brass wire brush (took of the glaze). I now give the brakes a squirt with brake cleaner after every ride (post wash) and no issues since.

Does anyone else's rear disc brake a lot of noise when riding due to it moving/ floating around whilst riding? On my my te310 it make a lot of noise to the point mates ask me if that's normal. Does anyone know if it's normal? Is there a way to reduce the noise?
Good to see I wasn't the only one concerned about this when I first got the Husky..........don't really think about it now though :excuseme: .

My front does the hot howl too. I figured it's just glazed, but I'm too lazy to mess with it. I'll be needing a new front tire soon, so while it's off, I'll hit the rotor and pads with the ol Scotch Brite. I think it sounds like a dolphin in heat sometimes.

I look at it as. If I'm thinking about or listening to the rear brake I'm not going fast enough.

I don't find it annoying, but who knows maybe if I throw some o-rings in there I'd be suprised.

It's a good idea to remove your rear disc and clean and re secure the mounting bolts. While your reinstalling, that's when you put some silicone inside the holes. I did mine two years ago and they still are holding and not rattling around. Pulling the pads after every ride is so easy to do.

Funny, I just bent my front rotor this weekend and it's like having ABS. Pulsating caliper. Rear is still quiet.

Funny thing when I had a decibel test at a trail head I was high but then when I stepped I the brake and quit the rotor rattle it dropped 2db ...if I remember it was 98db to 96db . Wr 300 with a spooged Leo Vince in need of a repack...stupid rotor rattle bugs me ...worse than vw pea shooter exhaust on a bug...nails on a chalk board...how do you solid mount?

My rear brake finally stopped rattling....after the disc got bent by a big rock...oscillates a little when braking but otherwise, works fine...

Mine stopped rattling too thanks to a rock

Since my rear rotor is probably past the wear limit, I need a new one and I want a solid mount, so I am interested in hearing what will fit, doesn't need to be wave, just that it fits the mounting holes.
racediscs in the UK & Zip Ty. do a search, threads about em on here:thumbsup:

IMHO The full floating rotor is the superior design. There is less brake drag, less heat transfer between rotor and hub, less warpage from heat as the rotor is not fixed at any point thus allowing it to expand and contract freely.

Your rotor will keep cooler and brakes will work better for longer. Your hub will keep cooler and your wheel bearing will last longer. Etc etc

The noise is the only downfall.

Cleaning and lubing the mounting pins and seals that the caliper slides on should be a regular maintainence point. When they get crusty the caliper can't center which contributes to drag and more noise from the sliding type rotors.
The 2002 and earlier factory solid mount rotor and bolts will replace the later (small) rear sliding rotor, bolts and spacers..
