• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hi guys & gals, I've never ridden off-road. I have a Triumph Street Triple which I love, but have had my eye on a SM 630. I have some questions maybe you could help me with. How many miles can I expect on a tankful of gas? How often between tune-ups? How often between oil changes? Will the 630 do short trips comfortably? I will probably do more highway riding than any other, but maybe some flat track on weekends.

Thx

Welcome! First thing you should know is, that supermotos in general are really no fun on long straights (highways).. the real fun is in riding twisties (or hooliganism in town :busted: )
I get around 140km out of a tank. I only ride to ride fast though. No daily riding to work or stuff like that, just for fun. :D

Service is every 5000km, where the dealer checks the valves and changes the oil. Short trips are no problem on the 630.. after you get used to the supermoto seat.

I can set you up with the owner's and shop manual so you can have a look at the maintenance requirements. Send me a PM.

Letting us know what city you live in would help with our opinions.

You can expect about 125 miles per tank before the reserve light comes on which indicates you have .6 gl left.

Manual indicates 3000 miles between oil changes.

Short trips are fine but as mentioned the enjoyment heightens with curves. I've taken a SM with two up for 150 mile ride and for me was no problem at all.

I rode my TE630 2000 miles in 5 days, with elevations ranging from 1,000 to 15,000 feet above sea level. Temperatures ranged from the mid 90s to the mid 30s. They're up to pretty much anything you can throw at them.

The shock valving both front and back are different between the SM and TE versions. Have both at home and the SM is definitely firmer and the TE rides better even on rough pavement, however the SM would be my choice for strictly pavement riding.

Thx everyone. Great information!

I'm used to the hooligan vibe. My Street Triple is considered a hooligan. I live in Pittsburgh, Pa. There are plenty of twisties in the Mts in Pa., N.York and W.Va.

I found a 2011 SM 630 in white for $6,495 otd with 5 hr tune-up/set-up. I think this is a good price, but can't make up my mind on the color. I'm sure when the 2012's come out I can get one for less.

Do they make an under seat exhaust?

Thx again for you replies.

Black/red/white are your options. Go look through the 630 pics, maybe this will help you decide ;)

Don't know about an under seat exhaust. Actually that's pretty uncommon among supermotos

It would limit your suspension travel, but I suppose if it's thin/low profile enough it wouldn't matter for most riders on a street moto...

The closest thing I've seen to an underseat exhaust for a motard is on the aprilia. haven't seen one for the husky yet.SXV.jpg

Does the SMS have a longer wheelbase than the TE or is that just an optical illusion in the photo? Lowered?
