  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Just got two new '09 WR's, a 250 and 300. First impressions after initial break in: Both bikes feel pretty good, excellent feel and good low rpm response. They don't seem to rev very well, or, at least they don't sing up top like I'd expect. Will they break in and loosen up?
My '08 Gas Gas 250 runs really hard through the midrange and up top, not quite like a new YZ 250, but way smoother and better overall.

My guess is that the bikes are tuned to run this way, which is fine, but I just want to get feedback.
 
My 300 did not rev when I first got it, try going a little leaner on the main jet. Night and day difference for me.
 
I guess I'm just expecting a little more yank up top. They're totally ridable, they just aren't as strong as a 2st mxer. My Gasser is, not as violent, but proven just as fast, and it feels it. This is after RB-Designs head and carb mods though. The Gas Gas is notoriously loose from the factory as far as squish band is concerned, and I'm now wondering if the Husky is too.
 
I really think you have a jetting trouble. My Husky WR300 rev to the moon and make STRONG power on top like an MX 250. I have had many 250 two stroke in the past and i can tel you the Husky is for sure the strongest on top. I dont know that when i chose this bike since its supposed to be a pure enduro bike but this motor have really 2 personnality. It can be lugged all day in 1st or 2nd gear in the tight stuff or can scream like a 125 on an MX track or on the fast trail.
Be sure to check your jetting first. This bike can be a bitch to jet.

Or just save time and buy a Keihin PWK 38 :cool:
 
I had a 06 GASSER ec250, great bike, loved it! It just didn't have the low end grunt I wanted. I was looking for a ec300, but couldn't find one reasonably priced. Came across my WR300 and bought it. This is also a great bike. The WR is hands down faster than the ec250 through the gears. On top end the ec would be alittle faster I believe because of the 6th gear. The WR is much more violent when you want it to be! Ofcourse on the flip side its gentle and easy to ride if you want to ride that way. Mine lugs very well too. Only thing I did to mine was put the full power jet kit in it and ride it. Is it perfectly jetted, probably not, but I can't tell it and I've not had alot of issues that you hear about with the Mukuni. With that said I'm no jetting expert, it just runs good and I ride it.
 
I have a YZ250 01 & a WR250 09. The Yz hits harder but the WR has more grunt over all, it just produces it in a user friendly way. I have a 390 main and a 28 pilot, sea level.

stock jetting is pretty rich, even for winter in idaho (30-40 degrees, 2500-4000'). dropping the needle to clip 2 helped me alot, but still the power is pretty linear so it doesn't have any sudden unsettling hit like my kx250 has. i think that's a good thing.
 
Give them a couple tanks of breakin then call me we can revisit the main jets Dave put in them for breakin ,and im sure clean up the top end> most everone I have owned rips on top with the TMX,however the Kehin does work well.Let me know or call. billf
 
Jack pu 45 miles on the 300 today, it cut loose with the top end at mile 35. Any ideas why it wouldn't rev before that? Just loaded up from break in? Wierd. The bike is getting better with time, but it will need some jetting. It feels fat at idle to 1/8th throttle. Should be fairly easy to sort.

Side note and question: What size is the fuel tank?

You're only in Washington, you can swing on down, leave the bike at home and go for a guide tour of whatever type of terrain you crave.

With that bait, we are set to rent these bikes out to customers of our tour company. Bike rental is $100 per day (damage deposit required). The guided tour cost varies depending on where you want to ride, for how many days, and if you want food or camping included. Pretty much a custom ordered.

Not to hijack my own thread, but an explanation was due.

Hi! When i had the Mikuni i used a needle named 6DEY15-74 that was very good. I had it in second slot. I had a 40 pilot withthat around 0 degrees F. I think you would be satisfied with this combo. That´s for the 300. I lean out all my bikes on the pilot and needle.

Doh! VA is a little bit more of a drive now isn't it!
Don't think we have not discussed picking up a couple of 125's. It's very tempting, though with the hills around here, we'd hate to punish the uninitiated on a 125. They work great, but you have to be a 125 rider to understand that. Though I would be happy to put people on a 125 when we go to the high desert.
 
It doesn't have one of those abominations, no. It decided to unleash itself last weekend, for whatever reason. It RIPS on top now! Now for the 250.........
 
Mine was tight as can be for about 10hrs or so. Didn't like to idle and didn't like to rev.
After raising the needle one clip and leaning out the main one size it was livable.

Once it hit around 10hrs it just plain hauled ass!

I spent a lot of time riding my WR300 and YZ285 out in the dez last weekend and I think the WR can whoop on the YZ up top. Low end is pretty soft in comparison, but that's a plus for technical riding. I believe my WR is the fastest accelerating bike I've ridden short of a CR500.

I also spent some time on an 08' KTM300xcw and was sorely disappointed with the power. It felt about 10hp down. No joke!

The e-start sure was nice though
