• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

New WORCS/Husqvarna Senior C class racer...having fun!

Hi Husky riders!

The following is a review of my introduction to a used 2009 Husqvarna TC-510 and WORCS off-road racing.

We traded a used street bike for this “low time” ’09 a few weeks ago, the bike was generally stock though it had aftermarket bars and some older wheels/brake discs then the stock ’09 model. Not sure why…I will ask when I ride with the guy sometime in the future.

My local Husqvarna dealer MotoForza in Escondido, CA checked over the bike for me, and replaced some blown fork seals and did some work on the forks (which were super low on oil). We put some fresh Bridgestone M403/404 on, fresh Maxima fluids all the way around, and went to the WORCS event at Glen Helen Sept. 24th. I’d ridden the bike briefly with the bad forks seals, so the race was the first real ride.

Truly enjoyed the WORCS meet. This was my first ever of that sort of race. Fared well considering I’ve just returned to dirt-bike riding in August after being off them for several years, and now in the 50+ classes am just a little more achy and less daring then 30 years ago. Or even 10 years ago! ;) The bike ran great, had an awesome start and physcially faded only a little…unfortunatly on last lap stalled the bike in a tight turn avoiding a downed rider and machine. Had trouble gettin’ her started, and lost a couple minutes and a few positions to finish 10th after an hour of racing. So it goes, was super FUN. :D

Rode the bike briefly one day at Milestone “Vet” mx track two weeks later, just tried to be smooth and develop more feel for the bike. After stalling it again I realize I seem to be trying to pull 3rd gear thru too many tighter turns, and haven’t quite got in sync with the bike yet in that respect. The bike has what looks to be the stock 47t rear sprocket…at Glen Helen that was good gearing but thinking maybe I should run like a 50 or 51t for most mx tracks?

This past weekend went to Racetown 395 for another WORCS race. The event was made a little tougher for me in catching a head/chest cold just before the weekend, and being miserably sick throughout. Oh well. The “unclassified’ practice Saturday morning was just stunning…I’d never ridden in so much deep sand. Our Senior class started a little before Noon under a pretty hot sun, and went out and baked my brains and flailed around for 58 minutes. Despite being ill, loved most every minute of it, and the 510 worked really well (though I was going pretty slow). Thinking a steering stabilizer may be a great idea for those long fast sandy sections? It was a tough mental battle some laps to keep the throttle slightly on so I didn’t bury the front. Had a great start, was 3rd off the first turn, and 6th at the end of the first nearly 5 mile lap. Unfortunatly, managed to stall the beast again on the mx course, and while the delay wasn’t as long as at Glen Helen several of the guys got past me. Ended up in a rousing battle with a Suzuki rider for 9th, and nearly caught the 8th place in class Kawasaki rider at the finish. Again, I have to say really truly enjoyed the WORCS track, format and the people running it did a fine job.

Hoping to get the 510 suspension dialed a bit for me later this year, find some different gearing and maybe see about the steering damper. Will find some better physical conditioning and get some more riding experience (have ridden the dirt bikes a total of 9 ride days - four on the 510 - this year now).

And 2012…hope to run the 510 at the WORCS season opener at Glen Helen currently scheduled to be January 13-15.

Might hit that practice day at Cahuilla at end of month, if I can get there will for sure look forward to meeting some Husqvarna riders (I was one of the very few last weekend at WORCS :excuseme: ) and learning more about the TC-510.

Thanks for reading!
Kenny

Sounds great. Glad to hear you're having fun with it. Good luck!

BTW: Sounds like you might need to invest in a E-start kit.

Thanks. Ya, I started thinking that about the starter, but maybe (just maayyyybeee?) one of those Rekluse Core EXP wil be better??

Any of you guys use them?

Seems like a better solution in that we don't add weight on an already heavy bike, and the benefits seem like they may be worth it?

Appreciate any help and thoughts...thanks! :)

Kenny,

Truly hoping that we see you at Cahuilla this Sunday! Again, we will be parked up at teh top right next to the Pee Wee Track sign. I'll be with a buddy driving a biege/copper colored suburban. Look for my bike and my sons KX65 #415 on both.

I run a 51 on my TC450 and it is great /better for Milestone... can hit the top end pretty quick with a 51 at Glen Helen or Cahuilla but having the 51 on makes it less of a dog in the corners and into the face of jumps when your up against the Japanese bikes.

Also, it is almost time to start riding Monday nights under the lights at Milestone after time change... I'll let you know when we are going... usually ride 6 to 9 p.m.

I'm interested in doing the WORCS race @ GH in January!

Also you can take my bike for a lap or two to see the difference with the 51T, Scotts Damper Etc....

........split case, add counter balance shaft assy ( from SM model) is the most significant mod on my TXC. The difference is amazing.

Awesome, thanks! You can ride my over-geared stock 510. :p

Hopefully you can give me some good guidence on the suspension on this thing too?
Thanks for the gearing tip, I found a 50t ti/moly Krause sprocket cheap on eBay, but will still have the 47 on the bike for a couple more weeks.

I already renewed my WORCS membership - am hoping to get some good training on bicycle and dirt bikes the next couple months, so I can make the hour race less painful! haha.

See you guys Sunday!

C class......shoot man u rip!!! good day today, I had instant trust in your lines, that was fun crossing and goofing around!

haha thx, ya yesterday was awesome! Great FUN, enjoyed meeting you guys and riding together. Appreciate the Husky "hints and tips" as well...got the JD kit ordered today! :)

Appreciate the trust, you all rode super smooth and I, as well, felt comfortable riding close.

Wheeeeeeeeeeeee!!!

That was a fun ride... and thanks to Rob for letting me ride your TXC 450 .... I had fun on it with Kenny on the Vet Track.... although I'm not sure he knew I was on your bike****************************************

That TXC is ultra plush... way different hit than what I am used to on the TC.....

Pleasure to meet you Kenny!

Rob - Thanks for helping out Logan on the vet track when he went down****************************************... he had a blast riding with Alessio!!!

Now you should think about doing some desert racing. No gate fee lots of places to ride around before the race. Most races are around 80 miles, which are about 2 different 40 mile loops no need for a big tank your stock tank will make it.Do not let people tell you it is hard and you will distroy your bike it is not that way.Just check out all the good review our race the 100s National got We had 297 racers start and only 5 DNFs After the race there were over 7,700 people look up the report and 98 people wrote in with good things to say.Check it out at www.district37ama.org in the message board section
I have raced WORC and the big 6 but for the money spent for a 45 min race desert is so much better
Hope to see you out there John

T - thanks, nice to meet you as well. Ya, I am old but could tell the difference in the racewear you and Robert were wearing. :oldman: hahaha. Great fun!

John, thanks for the idea...was recently looking at AMA District events online, but am not sure I am the type for open desert (as opposed to going laps around a course I can kind of learn). We'll see...never say never! :D

You will never know until you try one.The biggest classes are the senior and mag classes. We have learned that taking a chance on making the big double jumps is not worth it.The desert is not what you think they are really like some of the worc races but only longer with no big jumps. I like the idea of lining up at 9 am racing for up to 3 hours if you do both loops and only paying 40 dollars.Instead of waiting all day for your 40 min race.Plus miles of open riding for free
I am in the 100s club and we can guest pit you and hall your ass out of the desert if you break down .
