• Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Was a little frustrated to find the OEM Windscreen was no longer available for order, so I did a search for a suitable screen instead. While at my local Husky dealer getting my state inspection I was flipping through the KTM accessories catalog and found a touring screen for the KTM 690 LC4 that looked promising. Took a gamble and ordered it.

It arrived today and was happy to see it was a good fit for the TR650. The mounting holes don't match up to the TR holes but with the supplied template I was able to drill out new mounting holes into the plastic factory cover and use self-taping screws to mount the new screen.

I just installed and will take it out tomorrow for it first official test. Will update my results after a good long ride.

If you have the time call several/many different dealers throughout the country. Someone still has the OEM wind screen. I got one from Hall's about 2 weeks ago. Often ktm-part.com is backordered so I just call around till I find it and then order it. Can't wait got to ride before snow flies here in Maine.
 
Had my first full day of riding with the new screen today. Speeds just over 90 mph at times. The wind now pushes straight into the upper top of the helmet and above the chest and neck area when sitting completely upright, 5'10". Bike was much more stable at speed with the screen. No more dancing wind coming off the hand guards moving the handlebar like before. Nice addition that I'm glad I gambled on.

Will get a better straight on shot as the one from the angle make it look crooked. It is actually even around the bottom and sides :)

Sounds like you're saying the new screen is attached to the plastic only with sheet metal screws?

It looks like a small bit of the headlight is covered with the new screen, is there any weird reflections at night?

I looked at mounting the screen higher so the bottom was line up to the top light. The issue there would be the metal lower bar under the factory OEM plastic would have to be drilled and the screws placed through it. Not a terrible thing to do, but I choose to go lower and cover a portion of the safety top light (required by some countries). The headlight doesn't reflect in the screen, but the small top light does give a light glow which isn't unpleasant. When holding the screen onto the light I look at both high and low and like how the screen blended better in the lower position.

If I choose to remount the screen higher I can do so by drilling new mounting holes into the plastic. Will probably order a new black OEM plastic piece so I have the option of removing the screen if I choose too. Again, it is an experiment that seems to be working for now. Time will tell...

How is the buffeting and wind noise at speed? Have you rode it with earplugs in? Any severe buffeting or throbbing will show up then. I had to add an air space behind the windscreen on my windscreen to stop it.
 
Nice job, but i still see little air proteccion to touring very often.. I put OEM highger Top mask and so many turbulence on helmet. let us know your impresions . sure it will be ok.. but rider hight is very important.

The screen is raised off the factory front by the mounting holes. You can see from the website photos this. I rode home today with light rain and stayed dried. Will go to work tomorrow in heavier rain and see how well it does. I have stereo speakers in my bluetooth helmet and don't wear earplugs, but I understand how the wind can cause what you are describing as my BMW K1600GT has an adjustable height windscreen and I need to get to the right position at speed to get to that quiet zone.

The position of this screen puts air blast about 2/3's the way up my helmet when sitting completely upright. When I go over 70 mph I tend to dip my head a bit and the ride in the quiet air without any real difficulty. I can say it is doing a very nice job so far and happy with it. For $55 plus shipping it was a good deal too. I order a replacement factory front, both the white and black from Halls Cycle yesterday for just under $15 plus shipping. This will allow me to go back to stock come Spring and when I go riding in the forest roads.
 
I am trying OEM diferents angles, because the stock atack angle does not work properly, anyway your windscreen it looks wider down than OEM.
thats why i think the best Terra windscreen is PALMER products.. i you commute everyday in tamac is the best solution, so far.
 
Rode today in pouring rain at 70 mph for 15 miles. Hands stayed dryed thanks to the handguards and windscreen help keep my helmet clear with the wind helping to sweep the rain away. Most important was the chest area did not get soaked.
 
Love the look of this screen, it's got me thinking. The KTM screen plus a Madstad robo bracket! Just emailed Mark at Madstad to see if he'll part just with the brackets.

You gave your height at 5'10''. What is your inseam length? I'm 6'2" with a 32" inseam -- trying to judge if the screen will work for me on my Strada.

Inseam is just a hair less than 32". Given you are bit taller than I you could mount the screen 1 1/2" higher than I did and should give you the same helmet angle I have with the screen in the lowest possible position.

I'm very frightened to make drills because it's new¡¡¡ and need to know ,please, the measures of the self-tapper screws.

First of all , thanks Delnary for the idea :D
I have taken a front fender of a crashed car (trash bin) and cut a similar OEM screen

Next
I wraped it with a vinyl carbone decal and installed on bike.
Note: this windshield is taller than oem (8cm)

Next step:
I buyed a KTM Part Number: 76508065000 windshield, same of Delnari
I'm going to install it with self-tappered bolts in bottom holes and with original bolts in top holes
i´ll put it higher than Delnari, I want more protection.
I'm still checking the position
