• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

New to me 86 WR400

I've been gone from the site for a while, sold my last Husky two years ago.

Just picked up what I think is an 86 WR400. Frame prefix matches an 86 but the rest of the number is lower than that stated in the Husky files- 842251951H WP 13207
Motor number is 1614574.

I posted on the ignition thread too. Looking for someone to rebuild the Motoplat. The links in reference area don't seem to be current. So far MZB seems to be the only choice.
I measured the taper and it is 14.3mm diameter.

Any suggestions?
Thanks, Pete

Pete, seems there are a couple of rebuild resources in the US. They take your system and test for satisfactory operation. For the price I chose a completely new system but I was also looking to get additional lighting capacity.

Good news- it appears the ignition is functioning. Talked to Vance Smith and he helped me test it. Says a common problem is poor grounding.
Cleaning the carb and looking for other parts...

previous post from Motofo re his 86 WR400 has me questioning what year I have. The footpegs are the typical Japanese toothed style. They look stock. My old 86 WXC250 had the flat pegs with louvres on the top. the other difference I notice is the waterpump cover is plastic and it's protector is white painted sheet metal. My old 86 250 had a welded cage and aluminum ( I think) cover.

The shifter is steel and has a folding tip.

85 and earlier had the early pegs...86 and newer had newer style..probably some crossover but the frame style is slightly different to accept each peg. the peg you have pictured is a stock peg.

Thanks! Just making sure what I have. The single shock Husky stuff all seems interchangeable.

The shift lever looks stock as well.

With my short feet,

the shifter tab wasn't at 90 degrees, to the arm.

I had to weld some metal on the back,

so the shifter was then at 90 degrees.

Every little bit helps.

:)

its not! of course, there are many things that swap between different years..the 85/86 bikes are very different from the 87/88. even tho things look quite alike between the two. for example the two styles of pegs will not swap, even tho they look like they will. husky changed the angle of pivot.

i do that do, especially when the shifter is otherwise is good shape.

run a wire from your ignition mounting crew to the coil mounting screw
it can be fed through the stock loom
makes all the difference in the world

Thanks-Vance Smith suggested that as well. Definitely rust under the coil bracket, wrong plug too.

Yes, stator plate to the coil mounting. Waiting on the crank seal before assembling and testing.

Ordered odds and ends from Halls today- cables, crank seal, etc. I noticed the clutch plates are aluminum. Anyone know who sells steel plates?

Also, is the sprocket shaft leaking common? The bearing is fine, might be leaking from between the shaft and bearing. Has anyone tried an O-ring behind the spacer to seal/minimize leakage?
