  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

New to me: 2011 TXC 449- Help me get started

Husqvarna
Hi everyone,

Picked up my first dirt bike, a 2011 TXC 449. Pretty dang clean and looked to be a garage queen. A 450 was more bike then i wanted for my first ride on two wheels, but I couldnt pass up electric start, fuel injection, brembo brakes, and in general top quality components for $2900 which is just insane value. I also love the unique look of the Husky plastics.Very suave. I love the unique suspension approach and the efforts BMW/husky made to improve traction and the improved chain/sprocket life.

So far the performance has been great. My dirt bike buddies described it as smooth, easy to ride, and with surprising traction for a 450, all great remarks for a guy who just bought his first bike.

The only mod is a FMF Power Core Slip on.

Question for the experienced. The TXC feels down on power and snappiness compared to my buddies older stock 06 CRF450R(not that i need power). I didnt appear i have the "power up" plug per the below picture.
1) Does the power up plug make a difference?
2) Does anyone know where i can purchase one from or make my own?

Any suggestions on improvements or things i need to stay on top of?

The TXC has the same dual butterfly system as the TE449, you will likely get better throttle response (as do the TEs) by removing the butterfly plate from the shaft.

As for the power up plug, you can just bridge the two pins with a paper clip or similar wire and insulate from the surrounding frame etc with tape.

One thing to check on is the stator screws in the flywheel.
They can work loose and damage the stator.
It's a fairly easy operation removing the side cover and inspecting the screw for tension.
If found loose, replace with high tensile bolt bolt shop screws and loctite them in.

Don't forget the grease the lower shock bearing regularly and change the engine oil every 10 hours. Mobil 1 0W40 euro car formula is recommended.

5W40 full synthetic motor cycle oil with a wet clutch rating is recommended, some people choose to run the Mobil car oil.
The service schedule from the handbook stated 4hrs if running in Race Map II.
I run my oil to 5hrs to make the maths easier.
(Lots of fuel dilution at 5hrs in Race Map)

I don't care about your jeans, but wear knee pads. A cheap pair from Shift (Fox) is like $15USD and will save you from injury 10x's as often as your helmet.

have fun.
