  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

New to me 2010 TE310, minor problem

B Class
Hi all I finally got a TE. I've been wanting one for quite a while. I've got my work cut out for me.
I need a workshop manual, I know there is one on this site.. Time to get friendly with the search feature

I like the 'minor problem' title!! What caused the damage? Valve broke or piston hit valve?

Haha---- Yea hard to show sarcasm in words---- Not sure what happened. I bought it like this. The only thing I know is the kid was flat out on the freeway. I would think the valve stuck then the piston hit it and BLAM....

I hope for your sake the rest of the damage is minimal. All I know is for these low capacity TE's a Freeway = :(

Check the decompressor isnt/wasnt stuck on (which causes a valve to open) , I dont know which valve it acts on but Im pretty sure it is only one.

My TE will do >145km/h (not a typo) but I dont imagine it would be happy to do it for more than for a few 100 metres at a time.

nope it wasn't stuck. The one that broke was an intake the decompression (you right is just one) is the right side exhaust valve. i am actually going to use the stock cylinder and just get a new piston cause i'm pretty sure this one with the hole in it is not good... haha

Oh dear, is the head salvageable? What about con rod, crank and barrell?
Nope the head is bad off that thing is cut into the sides like a knife in butter. I ordered a new head complete, piston, rings, con rod, timing chain, gaskets and water pump. Of course then I read about the high flow water pump, so tomorrow I am going to try and get that one instead. I'm spending tons of money, I am pretty sure they will let me exchange for a more expensive part. Oh and today I was looking at the bike and saw a small puddle of oil under the right front shock.... Guess i will be rebuilding the shocks too. hah a good times, good times....

If you have the dual chambered 50mm type (red anodised fork boltheads) like mine, dont start me on the troubles I have had with leaky seals. Change the fork oil, install new seals and make sure you take about 5mm off the inner seal spring length.

I don't think that many guys are capable of doing what you are doing (i.e., bringing life back to an engine like that.) Good luck.

The silver lining of the situation is that the forks are really easy to work on. lol. We almost have it down to a science!

The high flow water pump is definitely worth it! The high flow kit just comes with the impeller and cover. It doesn't come with O rings, shaft, seal, nut, etc. so be sure to leave those on order if you can't reuse the existing parts.

Crap, Please tell me your not talking about this

I forgot to ask... In my last post the top image of the fork top.. Look at the bars clamp. Is that normal? or did this guy replace the upper tripple for some reason..?

Yes, those are the potentially leaky forks. Don't panic too much. I think that seal savers help a bit (matter of opinion there) and be careful with pressure washing around the fork seals. Be careful with those little rubber stoppers over the schrader valves too. If you lose them, there is pretty much NOWHERE to buy replacements (I haven't found a source yet). Guard them with your life!! :)

As for the bar clamp, it looks like the previous owner did a little homemade modification to make 7/8 bars fit into the 1 1/4 mounts. 2008 and up came with 1 1/4 inch bars stock and the clamps in the picture are stock clamps. You can rotate them 180 degrees if you like your bars in a more forward position.

I think you're really going to like this bike once you have it back together.

Phoenix. will do on the forks Thanks for the Heads up...
The bas thing is weird.. Why would anybody change them? And I would think all the controls wouldn't fit. Unless he changed all the controls.
To me it looks like he must have crashed pretty bad and bent the bars and clamp and replaced with what he had laying around. The rubber thru the tripple on both side is rotted and cracking..
Are you sure this bike 2010 TE310 came with 1 1/4 bars and not the 7/8?
