  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Yeah as for getting the ims set up so quick Steve at ims was gracious enough to let me do a pick up at the shop pretty much fresh out of the mold. The latest run is probably shipping out all the orders right now. Those guys are pretty cool so support ims and buy their tanks. I haven't run the bike off road yet but I did a road test with a full tank yesterday. I did notice a little more sluggishness leaning and transitioning but really not too bad. The best thing is you can run fuel only in the stock tanks and not take the external off but it's there if you need it and want to have instant range. Did it feel like I had a basketball between my legs? Lol maybe but I tell you what the seat concepts is really nice. I will never put the stock pos back on ever. As for the suspension set up, yeah obviously adding 24 lbs up high and forward will need to make a spring rate change/ valving. I was planning on that anyways as I am a 210 lb rider and the stock set up felt super soft to me. I have had pretty good luck with race tech springs so I will look into their offerings. Anyone else out there have any suggestions for good suspension set ups?
It sounds like you're looking to do springs yourself but if your willing to pay someone else, I'd go with Zip Ty. Especially for your bike set up the way it is. They have a full blown adventure 449 set up with that tank that will be in a magazine for review soon. They already understand the handling characteristics with with the tank and are more than likely more experienced with 449/511's then any other place that does suspension work. If nothing else maybe you can buy some stuff and install yourself but I don't really know about that.

I had my suspension done by LT racing. It is outstanding.

I have my own suspension guy who did a nice job on my 511....however, with the tank involved I would try Zip-Ty. As noted above, they've already played with this setup.

Ready for Baja! I'll hit up zipty after I get a handle on what I need suspension set up wise after my trip. Hopefully my oil catch can/ breather will be ready by then.image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

How easy is that tank to take on and off? I don't need that kind of range all the time, but it would be nice every now and again.
