  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

New TE 499 Boo Yeah

Just recieved my brand new Te 449 first thing its restricted as all hell.... looks great but, breaks are really good as well has a high ride hight iv notice but im not one to complain. One thing i will ask is the dealer said i had to do 500km befor i could de-restrict the bike for warrenty purposes is this true?? Keep in mind i live in Australia not that it should matter but if someone could fill me about that id be much greatfull.

Dunno, it is really up to your Dealer. As for restricted, yes they are. Uncork the stock muffler or replace it with something free flowing and add a JD EFI tuner and you a have a TON more power. Great bikes.

Motorsportz, I've the 2011 TE449 and am having the 2012 map uploaded to the ECU by my local dealer. Do you have the JD tuner settings for the 2012 map?

the tuner simply lets you add or subtract to whatever map you are running. You are simply tweaking the base map you are running. Depending on how far off the map is to what you want you will adjust to your needs from there. Has 6 areas to adjust and works fantastic. Even with the race map running on mine JD's Dyno / sniffer showed my bike was running very lean especially up top.

Hey Motosportz If i uncork the header and put the Akrapovic muffler on and dont remap or change anything els is that not good for my bike??

No it will run OK like that, make sure you have the race map plug plugged in under the seat. BUT it will gain a ton more power and overev with the JD tuner from there.

I have heard of a catylitic converter in some models and that it is very restrictive. Should this be removed? I have a TE 449 and my son has a TE 250.

Motorsportz, my question may have confussed you, so allow me to try again. What are the jd tuner settings for the 2012 husky 449 when my bike is using the akra but with the Spark arrester removed in map2 and no restrictors? Green setting, yellow setting, red setting etc?

Leppis, i not eode with the 2012 map.

There is no way for me to know that. You can easily set the tuner by seat of the pants. I usually go leaner until it does not work well int hat range and then move it up a little. EZ to adjust and play with.

Best guess would be about...

Green 4-5
Yellow 4-5
red 5 or more

the idle does effect the right off idle portion and the accelerator pump feature should be played with to sort out.

Basically the bikes all show lean even with the race maps so richer is the general direction.

Thanks. Just a point which maybe of interest i find going leaner on the green then standard works well perhaps this maybe due to how high im above sea level. In my case im about 30 metres. Do you know where the jd tuner was tested height above sea level? Ive gone richer on the mid to high rev settings works, but lean off idle low revs.

hey here is my 2011 TE449 I think the most important improvement i have made to my bike was putting on my new exhaust, thats what i would start with.
the exhaust i put on it is a FMF powerbomb Ti header for a TC449
the muffler is a FMF 4.1 Ti muffler for a TC449
i also put new pirelli scorpion mx tires
and i am waiting for my jd jetting kit. ordered it yesterday
there is soooo much power already i cant wait to see how it is after the jd jetting

I bought that fmf power bomb but i couldnt fit it because there was no exhaust clamp to the fit it to the engine. The power bomb from the tc449 appeared to be only fitted using springs. Do you have a photo of where the power bomb fits to the engine and how you fitted it.by the nice looking bike if you dont mind me saying.
